Using e-companion in the classes of Professor Feliu-Moggi:
What is e-companion? |
E-companion is a web-based course shell that allows students to go on-line and receive first-hand information about a class. For every one of my classes, there is an e-companion shell. You can log into that shell by going to e-companion login page at UCCS If you need help accessing e-companion or logging in, you can find login help at this UCCS page. There is also a student tutorial that will guide you on how to navigate and use the site. It is FUNDAMENTAL that you complete the tutorial. It will show you how to navigate the site and how to complete exams. |
What will I find in e-companion? |
Updated information: E-companion is where students can find up-to-date information about the course schedule. While the schedule provided with the syllabus is tentative, e-companion will provide week-by week updates on topics, readings, assignments, quizzes and exams that can be accessed by clicking on the corresponding week. Materials will be posted one week in advance. Readings: The readings for the week will be posted on e-companion. In many instances, instead of handing out photocopies, the texts of the readings will be made available in the site. Assignments and homework: Will also be posted on the site, including the complete texts of assignments and guidelines. Quizzes and Exams: On the weeks of scheduled quizzes ?and in the case of some exams-- students will have to access e-companion in order to complete the required test. Some of these will require that you use examguard, a program designed to control time management and accuracy in test-taking. Unit 6 of the e-companion student tutorial offers extensive information on what you will and will not be able to do when taking and submitting exams. It is the student's responsibility to know BEFOREHAND the process of quiz and exam taking and submission on e-companion. |
Student Responsibilities When Using e-companion |
Web access and use of web resources: Access to the web is fundamental for completing all of the exercises and assignments in the class. If you live in campus housing or nearby, there is extensive access to computers on campus. If you live away, work, or come to campus only on a part-time basis and do not have access to a computer at home, it is your responsibility to fit in your research and homework schedule the time to access the web to complete exercises and quizzes, whether on campus or at a public library where you live. E-mail address and contact information: if you are enrolled in the course, your name and e-mail address will appear in the e-companion list. The professor will use that list to contact students about schedule changes, absences in case of illness, weather-related schedule changes, or any other matter affecting the immediate operation of the course. It is your responsibility to ensure that the e-mail address listed for you in the course shell is correct. If that e-mail address is not correct, or if you don?t have access to e-mail, get the phone number of another student and make sure that they can contact you when a message from the professor is delivered. Using the grade book: The grade book tool that appears in e-companion is tentative. While it will accurately represent the grade and percentage of each individual exercise, homework assignment, test, etc., this tool often presents a cumulative grade that is not representative of the actual course grade. A student?s final grade in the course will be determined based on the cumulative scale that is presented in the syllabus, where each block of elements represents a percentage of the final grade. |
Completing Quizzes and Exams on e-companion |
Upon completing e-quizzes and exams on e-companion, it is the student's responsibility to ensure that the completed exercise is delivered to the professor. If it is simply a matter of submission of a quiz or exam, make sure you have pressed the ?send? button. If the material has to be delivered electronically, make sure that it is deposited in the DROPBOX. |
