Otros
procesadores de palabras pueden usar otros métodos para insertar caracteres.
Puedes ver varias opciones en: http://www.starr.net/is/type/kbh.html.
Using PC/Windows
There are two methods to type special characters into applications other
than MS Word (such as Web pages):
1. The PC keystroke
index can be handy when the
special characters are seldom used, because it does not require installing any
special keyboard layout. The user needs to enter a 4-digit sequence on
the number pad (with NUM LOCK on) while holding down the ALT key:
| á = Alt +
0225 |
Á = Alt +
0193 |
ó = Alt +
0243 |
Ó = Alt +
0211 |
¿ = Alt +
0191 |
| é = Alt +
0233 |
É = Alt +
0201 |
ú = Alt +
0250 |
Ú = Alt +
0218 |
¡ = Alt + 0161 |
| í = Alt +
0237 |
Í = Alt +
0205 |
ñ = Alt + 0241 |
Ñ = Alt + 0209 |
ü = Alt + 0252 |
| Hold the ALT key while
typing the numbers on the Number Pad. Make sure Number Lock is on. |
2. The U.S.
International Keyboard Layout for Windows makes the accented characters
quite easy to enter, but the keyboard behaves a bit differently. To use this
method, one needs to (a) set it up, and (b) know how the keyboard behaves.
(a) Setting up the
US International Keyboard
• Windows 95, 98 and ME:
click the Start button, then choose Settings, Control Panel,
and double-click the
Keyboard icon. In the new window, click the Language tab.
Under Keyboard languages and layouts, click the
Properties button. Select United States-International for
keyboard layout from the drop-down menu, or add a
language and give it properties - one of which is the US-International
English keyboard. Use Apply or OK to
finish the process. The Windows installation CD is usually needed. A
description with visual aids is at
Creighton U. LRC.
• Windows 2000:
click the Start button, then go to settings-->control panels-->regional
options-->
input locales to set the U.S. int'l keyboard.
• Windows XP:
Click Start-->Control Panel-->Date, Time, Language and Regional
Options.
Click on Regional and Language Options. In the new window, click
on the Language Tab-->Details.
In the new window, click on the Add button and then scroll to
English (United States) ? United States-International as your Default Input Language.
(b) How the
Keyboard behaves
In the US-International keyboard the five punctuation keys ` ' " ~ ^ are now "dead": nothing happens immediately upon pressing them. If the next
key pressed is a vowel, an accented vowel will appear. For an accented a (á), for example, just
type the apostrophe ',
then the a: á.
Press ~ and then n to
obtain ñ, and " then u for the ü.
Recent PCs also allow you to use the right alt key + another key:
right alt + ? = ¿ right alt + ! =
¡ right alt + c = © right alt + e = é , etc.
If you want to begin a quote or just enter the mark by itself, simply enter
the key followed by the space bar to get ' " ^ ~, etc.
The table below provides
the key sequences for the U.S. International Keyboard Layout:
