18 I have developed a knowledge of the rapidly increasing scholarship in U.S. minority groups, which focuses on the private and public lives of ethnic minority people, their historical, literary and artistic contributions, their social, political, and economic conditions, and the relations of ethnic minority groups not only to each other, as well as to their related diasporas, but to the dominant power structures in U.S. society in terms of gender, class and race.
