After completing this degree, you will be eligible for special education licensure working with mild and moderate learning disabilities, mental retardation, and behavior disorders, or with students who have more severe or multiple disabilities in elementary or secondary schools, alternative educational programs, or in residential school facilities. This program emphasizes the need to teach individuals with disabilities to be independent and to participate in their schools, community, and workplaces. The program is 132 semester hours with 63 semester hours specifically geared towards Special Education.
To be admitted into this program: 1. Pick up and fill out the Application of Intent form by May 10, 1997 at the School of Education office at Columbine Hall, Room # 3023. 2. Apply through College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences . To be accepted, it is suggested to have a G.P.A. of 2.5 or better, but go ahead and apply if it is lower. If you are not accepted into this program, make an appointment with James Martin, Ph.D. by calling (719) 262-4996 to review the reason for non acceptance and the strengths needed before applying again.
