UCCS Researcher Awarded Contract to Build Incident Management Ontology for US Air Force Academy |
|
Dr. Roger Sambrook, a Research Professor at the National Institute of Science, Space and Security Centers (NISSSC) at UCCS, has been awarded a $40,000 contract from the US Air Force Academy’s new Broad Area Announcement (BAA) contract to conduct the initial phase of construction of a first-of-its-kind knowledge base describing the underlying behavior of emergency management processes. In this first-ever award of a USAFA BAA to UCCS, Dr. Sambrook and his team of research students intend to leverage an understanding of the fundamental principles underlying emergency response actions to assemble a “data dictionary” representing the body of knowledge describing incident response. “This data set, when completed, will form the basis for comprehensive modeling of the dynamic interactions of incident response, and will ultimately lead to a brand-new paradigm for fashioning best practice incident response operations and software tools,” said Dr. Sambrook. “The research project grew out of an initial study funded by NISSSC’s Center for Space Studies to address the needs of Air Force Space Command emergency management organizations, said Dr. Scott Trimboli, CSS Director. “The effort quickly expanded to address incident management in the general sense,” he said. CSS is established within NISSSC, UCCS, to focus on research, education and outreach in the domain of space technology. For more information, visit http://www.uccs.edu/~css/index.html . |
