On Campus Services


Ride Board:

The University Center (UC), located in the center of campus, maintains a ride board for the convenience of students who want to connect with other students to share a ride to campus and/or need transportation to other areas of the state on weekends or over holiday breaks. The Ride Board is located on the first floor of the UC. Ask for directions at the Information Desk.

Housing Information:

Information about available housing is located in two areas of the University Center (UC).

1. Off campus housing board- located on the second floor just past the entrance to the Overlook Cafe, and directly outside the entrance to the Recreational Sports office/gymnasium. Access to the board is available throughout the week and on weekends at all times the UC is open.

2. Off campus housing book- for your convenience, a notebook containing information about available housing is located in the ROAR Office, first floor of the UC across from the Information Desk. It contains the same information that is posted on the bulletin board on second floor, however, the ROAR Office is not open the entire time the UC is open.

3. Students from Colorado Springs and surrounding areas are welcome to live in the residence halls on campus, if they prefer. For information about "The Housing Village" check out http://web.uccs.edu/housing/. In addition to the traditional residence hall rooms, beginning in Fall 2004, "The Village" will offer apartment style lodging. For more information, go to the housing website above and check on apartment living.

Locker Rental:

For students who desire one, lockers are available to rent on a first come/first serve basis in the University Center. Locations are as follows:

1. UC PUB/Game Room- $5/semester

2. Outside the entrance to the Overlook Cafe- $0.25/use

3. In the Campus Recreation Office (for the guests of those areas). Call 262-3477 for more rental information.

Lounge Areas:

Do you have time between classes but don't need to go to the library? Make yourself comfortable in one of the University Center's lounge areas.

  • A lounge that is adjacent to the Scribe Office on the first floor is equipped with a big screen TV.

  • A second lounge on first floor, just to the right of the Information Desk, behind the ENT Federal Credit Union, is quiet and ideal for studying.

  • A continuous lounge runs from the interior entrance to the El Pomar Center on the second floor and runs through the center of the building. This lounge is ideal for visiting with friends over a cup of java and a pastry, plugging into the Internet with 10 Based-T wiring from one of the study/meeting tables, studying, people watching, or having a front row seat to observe activities in the UC's Upper Plaza area.

  • Another lounge, complete with comfortable furniture, is located just across from the stairwell entrance to the third floor.

Sitting, visiting, and studying are also permitted in the Overlook Dining Room seating area on the second floor of the UC or on any of the outdoor patio furniture located outside the entrance to the UC on the first floor, outside the Game Room on the west side of the UC, also on first floor, or in the Upper Plaza on the east side of the second floor. During lunch hours please be respectful of dining customers needing a place to sit in the Overlook Cafe seating area.

Information Desk:

Located in the University Center http://web.uccs.edu/univcent/, the Information Desk offers a variety of services to support your collegiate experience.

  • Message Board- need a way to get or leave a message for a roommate, someone you carpool with, a friend or loved one? The UC Info Desk is happy to assist.

  • Pick-up/Drop-off service- need to leave something for a friend or need a place to pick up something that someone drops off for you? The Information Desk is happy to help coordinate that exchange.

  • Need Directions- to places on campus or in the city? These folks can help.

  • Free Local Phone

  • Free TDD Phone

  • Fax Service- for a minimal charge

  • Purchase Stamps

  • Purchase city bus passes

  • Purchase blue books, scantrons

  • Purchase tickets to campus events

  • Lost and Found- for items misplaced in the UC and on campus

  • Pick up Schedule of Classes catalogues.

Dining Services:

 

Various retail food options are available in the University Center.

  • The Overlook Cafe- offering a variety of cuisines including hamburgers and other hot sandwiches, Mexican, specialty salads, sub-sandwiches, alternating Asian and Italian cuisine, Pizza Hut pizzas, and soup/salad bar.

  • Jazzman's Cafe- brewing Seattle's Best coffee, lattes, espresso combinations, as well as, assorted herbal teas, smoothies, colas, fruit juices, pastries and bagels, muffins, specialty cookies, dessert bars, specialty breakfast and lunch sandwiches, soup, and much more.

  • The Pub- located adjacent to the Game Room on the first floor. The Pub offers a menu of hot dogs, nachos, pizzas, chips, sodas, FREE popcorn, and more.

  • The Lodge- located in the Housing Village (west end), The Lodge offers an all-you-can-eat food court option for all members of the campus community, and at very reasonable prices. For more information check out the website, http://www.uccs.edu/~sodexho/

Student Success Center:

 

This Center offers a variety of services- academic advising, Career Services, the CU-Opportunity Program and more- specifically designed to empower students to achieve their academic goals. Check out the Center at http://web.uccs.edu/studentsuccess/

Project Excel Centers:

 

The Project Excel Program at UCCS includes the Language Technology Center, the Mathematics Learning Center, the Writing Center-five academic Centers designed to provide critical academic and individual support in all major academic areas, both within and beyond the classroom. Each Excel Center offers students a unique program of academic support that is based on the principles of collaborative learning, individualized assistance, and the intelligent use of technology. Academic support programs in the Centers are designed to complement of classroom activities in various disciplines as well as offer individualized assistance to students on a one-to-one basis. These programs are delivered through computer-assisted instruction, self-paces software, multi-media, web-based instructional support, and self-study programs, as well as individual tutorial support. Students who use the Excel Centers consistently earn higher grades than students who do not. Financial Aid & Student Employment:

 

The Financial Aid/Student Employment Office attempts to help you overcome any financial challenges that may be barriers to academic success. Financial assistance can take the form of grants, loans, scholarships, need-based or non-need based work study awards, and assistance identifying on and off campus job opportunities. Family Development Center:

 

The Family Development Center (FDC) offers quality early childhood programs for children (ages 1-12) of university students, faculty, staff, and the community at large. Other:

 

Convenience Store- a convenience store (Stop 'n' Paws) is located between the Bookstore and a Copy Center on first floor of the UC.

  • UCCS Bookstore- is located on the first floor of the UC just left of the Information Desk.
  • Microwaves- if you bring food from home and need to warm it up, free microwaves are available outside Jazzman's Cafe on the second floor, and at the entrance to the Overlook Cafe, also on the second floor.

Vending- a bank of soda, snack and candy vending machines are located just east of the Game Room on the first floor.

ATM- a "no charge" on this end ATM is located outside of the ENT Federal Credit Union on the first floor.

PUB/Game Room- have some free time or a passion for table tennis? The Game Room is located on the first floor. Stop by and pick up a game of table tennis, pool, foosball, play video-games, or watch TV.

Fitness Center- all UCCS students have FREE access to the Fitness Center on the third floor of the UC. Just come in during hours of operation (call 262-3463 for info.) BUT DON'T FORGET TO BRING YOUR UCCS ID.

Showers- if you ride a bike to school or need a shower following an intense workout, feel free to use the showers located in the men's and women's locker rooms on the second floor of the UC in the Gymnasium (enter through the Campus Recreation Office.)
