Our application and admission process is very thorough and admission to the program is competitive. Our goal is to recruit the very best people to teach children and youth.
If you are not accepted, you may make an appointment with the Director to review the reason for nonacceptance and possible ways to strengthen your application if you choose to reapply.
If you have changes in name, address, place of employment, work or home telephone numbers, notify the School of Education immediately. We need to be able to reach you by mail and phone at all times. After attending a Group Advising Meeting, contact the School of Education to set up an appointment with an advisor to discuss the program. At this meeting, the advisor will review your LAS audit. It is essential to bring official or unofficial transcripts to this meeting. At this advising session you will be informed about any education courses you will need to take. You will also need to meet with the Student Success Center to ensure that LAS requirements are being met.
Pick up an Application packet from Melissa Schecter or Barbara Scott. Fill out and submit the application form for the first tier introductory year.
Two official set of all transcripts must be sent directly from all schools you have attended to:

This is the form which was completed during your initial advising appointment to determine the requirements you needed to complete. You should make a copy of the checklist for your records before turning the original in to the College of Education.

Distribute to at least two persons familiar with your academic work and your experience with children / youth. Specifically, references from people who have observed your association with young people in a school setting are most highly valued. These reference forms should be returned directly to Barbara Scott.

Contact the College of Education set up an appointment with an advisor. At this meeting, the advisor will review your general checklist and an area checklist. There is a $45.00 nonrefundable TEP Application Fee. This fee is to be paid at the Cashier's Window (Main Hall 139). A copy of the receipt is required for the TEP file. The fee must be paid at the time that the application is submitted. When the College of Education receives your application and fee, a file will be set up for you. You will be notified periodically of the status of your file. It is your responsibility to check on the status of your file as items are received.

Please submit your class and work schedule form. We need to know the days, times, classes you are taking. If you are not enrolled in class, we need to know that also.
You will be scheduled for an interview and notified of the date and time. When arranging your interview time, we will make every effort to avoid conflicts in your schedule. Usually we cannot alter times. Failure to appear when scheduled essentially stops your application.
You will need to obtain a complete set of fingerprints through a qualified law enforcement agency on the cards provided by the College of Education. The completed fingerprinting card must be returned to the College of Education accompanied by a money order (only) for $39.50 made out to CBI and $7.00 to TEP in order to expedite the process.
The College of Education will notify you of the decision on your application by letter. If you are accepted, you will be required to complete, sign, and return the Oath and Consent Form and return it to the Director of the Teacher Education Program.
