Super Saturday banner

Super Saturday at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs is a program of classes for gifted students in the Pikes Peak region.  The program is run under the auspices of the College of Education, and classes meet on the University campus.  Class size ranges from 12 to 16 students.  The goal of Super Saturday is to challenge the students' intellectual and creative abilities. Registration for Spring 2010 will begin mid-February.

Calendar

Spring 2010 classes will run six consecutive Saturdays: April 3, 2010 through May 8, 2010 with May 15, 2010 the snow date.

Time: 10:00 am – 12:00 noon. (8:00 classes run from 8 am-9:55 am)

Online Registration Process

1. Print out teacher recommendation form >> Teacher Recommendation Form pdf file

2. Fax completed signed application to 719-255-4110 OR mail to UCCS College of Education, Super Saturday, 1420 Austin Bluffs Parkway, Colorado Springs, CO  80918 OR e-mail scanned document to supersat@uccs.edu

3. If you are requesting a scholarship for half of tuition, fax, mail or send scanned copy of documentation listed under “Scholarship Information” below

4. You will be sent an invitation to register online to the e-mail address provided on the teacher recommendation form within one business day of receipt of your completed application form

5. If you have been awarded a scholarship you will also receive a discount code to use for the online registration

6. You may pay online by credit card, or indicate that you will mail a check

7. You will be able to see what classes are available and receive immediate confirmation of registration

8. Completed Informed Consent and Medical History forms are required on the first day of class.

Student Qualifications

Students must:

  1. Demonstrate high motivation and commitment to completing work. (Super Saturday classes include homework.)
  2. Have exceptional strength in the topic areas being presented in the classes for which they apply, as shown by:
    • Performance on an appropriate standardized test at the
      95th percentile or above, or
    • Outstanding school performance in the subject.
  3. Demonstrate high standards of classroom behavior.

In all cases, a teacher, principal, or other educator that knows the student well must complete the recommendation on the application assuring that the student meets Super Saturday's requirements.

Tuition Information

The tuition for Super Saturday classes is $85.00. Please make checks payable to UCCS Super Saturday. Once enrollment has been established, there will be no refunds.

Scholarship Information

A few half-tuition scholarships are available and are awarded on first come, first serve basis. Students who wish to apply for a half-tuition scholarship must include the following with their application:

  1. A letter from their principal attesting to the motivation of the student, and
  2. District written documentation that the student qualifies for the free / reduced lunch program.
    No scholarship applications will be considered unless this information is included.

Application Deadline

Application dates TBA.  Classes are filled on a "first come, first serve" basis ; all applicants will receive confirmation.

Policies

  1. Super Saturday classes meet from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. Students should arrive in their classrooms no earlier than 9:55 am and must be picked up promptly at noon. (8 am class students should arrive at 7:55 and be
    picked up promptly at 9:55).

  2. In addition to high academic standards, Super Saturday expects high standards of student behavior. Disruptive behavior which interferes with instruction will not be tolerated. Any student whose behavior is disruptive will be asked to leave the program (with tuition refunded on a pro-rata basis).

  3. Students who are accepted are expected to attend all class sessions.

  4. Students may be photographed during Super Saturday sessions for University purposes or by parents during Open House. If this is a problem please contact the Director.
