Daegu English Village Grand Opening

DGEV RibboncuttingAn official opening of the $40 million Daegu English Village drew dignitaries from throughout Korea and from UCCS Oct. 30. A Nov. 12 campus event is planned to celebrate the first collaborative effort between Korean and American universities to create a full-scale immersion experience in American culture. (MORE)

Dr. Lindy Crawford appointed to Professional Advisory Board of the National Center for Learning Disabilities

Dr. Lindy CrawfordLindy Crawford was recently appointed to the Professional Advisory Board of the National Center for Learning Disabilities. Board members meet once annually in the city of New York and contribute their time throughout the year to work on various projects related to the education of students with learning disabilities. The College of Education received the 2007 Community Service Award from the Autism Society of America / Pikes Peak region. The award was accepted on behalf of the College of Education by Dr. Lindy Crawford.

Randall L. De Pry re-elected to serve as member of APBS Board of Directors

Randall De PryRandall L. DePry, Ph.D. (Department of Special Education) was re-elected to serve as a member of the APBS Board of Directors by this international organization's membership. Dr. DePry currently serves as the Secretary of APBS and was elected to serve on the board in March 2005. The mission of APBS states that "The Association for Positive Behavior Support (APBS) is an international organization dedicated to promoting research-based strategies that combine applied behavior analysis and biomedical science with person-centered values and systems change to increase quality of life and decrease problem behaviors. The Association is made up of professionals, family members, trainers, consumers, researchers, and administrators who are involved and interested in positive behavior support." La Vonne NealLa Vonne I. Neal, Dean of the College of Education, presented an all-day "Teachers' Workshop on Culturally Responsive Teaching" at the 92nd Annual Conference of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) on October 4, 2007 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Social Studies teachers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District, one of the largest school districts in North Carolina and other conference participants attended the workshop.
