The curricula of the these programs have been carefully designed to ensure the development of educational leaders who can transform schools into learning communities in which all members of a diverse society are accorded opportunity and respect.

They have been developed on a foundation of research in the areas of leadership, management, schooling, curriculum, instructional practices, adult development, and technology.

All programs are aligned with the requirements of the Colorado Commission on Higher Education, the Colorado standards for principal and administrator licensure, the NCATE Curriculum Guidelines, AASA Standards for Superintendents, and Educational Leadership Constituency Council (ELCC).

Ph.D. Program Educational Leadership, Research & Policy

This program is designed to meet the personal and professional needs of educational leaders in school districts, higher education, and non-governmental organizations through rigorous courses in leadership, research and policy. This innovative program combines challenging coursework with collaborative faculty-students research labs that prepare students for successful completion of the dissertation and professional application of skills and knowledge. MA and Principal Licensure

This program offers students an opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in leadership for improving the organizational and instructional effectiveness of schools. This program offers the opportunity to complete both an MA and principal licensure in one integrated program, which requires the completion of 42 semester hours. If you currently hold a master's degree, you can also complete just principal licensure, which requires the completion of 33 semester hours. To be eligible for licensure, candidates must:

  • Successfully complete all academic and field experience requirements
  • Pass the appropriate Colorado PLACE exam
  • Complete three semester hours of a field-based practicum

UCCS College of Education is committed to offering programs that meet strict accreditation standards. As with any new start-up program, there is an involved process required to gain accreditation. All the UCCS College of Education programs are fully accredited and we are in the process of acquiring the same accreditation for our online programs.

Administrator / Superintendent Licensure

If you already hold a Master's Degree from an accredited institution and a Colorado Principal License, or have completed a Master's Program and an approved program for principal preparation, your Administrator Licensure program will consist of nine semester hours during a one-year intensive program.
