John Weathers is an assistant professor in the Department of Leadership, Research, and Foundations in the College of Education at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Dr. Weathers received a Ph.D. in Education Policy and a master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Pennsylvania, where he worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate and Research Assistant at the Consortium for Policy Research in Education (CPRE). His research has focused on the effects of school policy and leadership on teacher communities and parent involvement, the effects of internally generated performance and process data systems on improving organizational outcomes, and the role of policy supports in teachers' use of formative assessment practices. This research has been presented at national education and sociology conferences and has been published in the Forum for Qualitative Research and through the Consortium for Policy Research in Education and the Alliance for Excellent Education. Dr. Weathers has developed training for and consulted with state policymakers and educational leaders around the use of data and performance management systems for program/policy evaluation and improving outcomes. His current research interests include organizational learning, school and district leadership, professional learning communities, formative assessment, data-driven decision-making, and performance management.
