Lindy Crawford is an Associate Professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. She received her Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of Oregon in 2001. Her research interests include large-scale assessment programs, test accommodations and modifications for students with special needs, alternate assessments, and curriculum-based measurement. Dr. Crawford also leads a research team investigating teachers' use of effective instructional practices for English language learners. Currently, Lindy teaches and conducts inservice trainings on educational assessment, including use of curriculum-based measures within a Response to Intervention model.
Currently, Dr. Crawford conducts applied research in two areas:
She has received funding from the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), the National Academy of Education, and the Colorado Department of Education to lead various research projects. Working with a team of researchers, Dr. Crawford is researching the impact of an online mathematics tutorial for middle school English language learners across four states.
She is also studing students' responses on the Colorado Student Assessment Program in Writing. Responses have been analyzed according to their quality and quantity of revisions and results disaggregated across grade-levels and educational classification.

Dr. Crawford is published in the Journal of Special Education, Exceptional Children, Educational Assessment, the Journal of Learning Disabilities, Exceptionality, Educational Administration Quarterly, and the Bilingual Research Journal. She is lead author on book chapters and articles addressing educational assessment of students with and without learning disabilities.
Currently Lindy is Principal Investigator on a research subcontract measuring the mathematics achievement of English language learners who use an online supplemental middle school mathematics program. This research project is led by Rocky Mountain PBS and spans five states.
