The Daegu English Village (DGEV) has been established via a partnership between The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and Yeungjin College located in Daegu, South Korea. The purpose of the Daegu English Village is to train students of all ages in the usage of the English language and cultivate a global learning environment for the 21st Century. Additionally we wish to establish an environment which provides English education of South Korean citizens in an experiential learning environment of western cultures.

This partnership offers six English Programs:

  1. The Young Learners Program - a creative English school for children.
  2. Super Saturday Program - a fun trip at the Daegu English Village.
  3. ESL for Children Program - a three week immersion camp.
  4. Kindergarten Program - an activity based program using Play and Fun-Play, Phonics, Singing songs, Total Physical Response (TPR).
  5. Vacation Program for Adults - a three week in-depth English program for college students, job seekers, and students preparing to study abroad.
  6. Family Experience Program

Debby Jennings

Portrait of Debby Jennings...is an international educator that thrives in multi-cultural environments. She has a Masters in International Relations from East Carolina University. Networking and information dissemination is second nature in her work to provide innovative instruction based on the educational needs of individuals, communities, and organizations, no matter where they are located.

Prior to coming to work for the Daegu Project at UCCS, Debby lived and worked abroad. Her career has taken her to Japan, Germany, France, India, The Netherlands, as well as, the United States.

Her teaching, research, writing, and public speaking experiences have opened new windows of opportunity for international educational exchange for which she is a strong advocate. Debby especially enjoys setting up new programs that can serve as models and lead to replication in other locations. She believes that the Daegu English Village is just such a model.

Georgina Segura

Portrait of Georgina Segura...is the mother of two teenage children. She has a beautiful and intelligent 17-year-old daughter, and a wonderfully considerate and outgoing 15-year-old son. Georgina has a love for the ocean since she was born in Key West, Florida and still visits family there as much as possible. However, her love for the mountains is what keeps her in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and working on home remodeling projects. Georgina is currently a senior nearing graduation with dual degrees: Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Bachelor of Arts of Science in Nursing.

Her extensive background working for UCCS, Pikes Peak Community College, Hewlett Packard, MCI WorldCom, and culturally diverse clients from around the world contributes positively to the Daegu English Village program.

She serves as the Coordinator for the stateside Daegu English Village Team. She believes the partnership between UCCS - College of Education and Yeungjin College - Daegu English Village will set a great example of working towards global friendship.

Additionally, she believes that what is encountered on an individuals life journey is what makes a person complete. On her journey, all of the experiences and challenges whe has encountered will continue to define and enrich her as an individual.
