Chancellor's Leadership Class

PROGRAM BACKGROUND
The Chancellor’s Leadership Class (CLC) began in 1997, an initiative of Chancellor Linda Bunnell Shade. In 2001, CLC became a member of the Colorado Leadership Alliance (CLA). CLA is a partnership between seven sister leadership programs.

PROGRAM INFORMATION
CLC is a highly selective undergraduate honors program designed to develop effective leaders. Through coursework, community service, skill building, and mentoring, students have the opportunity to enhance their leadership abilities. To allow students to focus their full attention on the program, CLC provides a substantial scholarship renewable for up to four years.

PROGRAM DESIGN
Coursework

Each CLC student is required to take three classes in leadership studies before graduation: Introduction to Leadership Studies, Profiles in Leadership, and Experiences in Leadership. Students have a chance, by taking three additional leadership classes, to earn a minor in leadership studies.

Community Service
Students participate in both individual and group service projects. During their first year in the program, each student must complete a minimum of 70 hours of community service per semester. As students progress through the program, the amount of hours required may decrease as level of engagement with service projects increase.

Skill Building
Students meet on Wednesday evenings from 7:15 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. to participate in skill building activities in the areas of career development, professionalism, critical thinking, and personal enrichment. Classes are led by both community and campus leaders.

Mentoring
Upperclassmen mentor new CLC members. Students in CLC also have the opportunity to be mentored by a current community leader.

Academic Excellence: Incoming freshman applicants must have a minimum unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.5. Current UCCS or transfer students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Leadership Potential: Applicants should demonstrate an interest in developing leadership skills as well as experience in leadership roles.

Students can apply as high school seniors or as current college students.

Current college students, either transferring from another institution or current UCCS students, must have at least two years remaining at UCCS in order to be eligible for the program.
