with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science,
Captain Stanley was commissioned through Officer
Candidate School in March 1983. Following Basic Surface Warfare Officer School and Damage Control Assistant School, he reported to USS TUSCALOOSA (LST 1187) as DCA. From 1985-87, he served as Flag LT to Commander, Amphibious Group THREE and Commander, Naval Surface Group Long Beach. He was selected for lateral designator transfer to Naval Intelligence in 1987 and reported to USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69) where he served as OZ Division Officer, Multi-Sensor Interpretation Officer and Supplementary Plot Officer. He graduated in 1992 from the Naval Postgraduate School with a Master of Arts degree in National Security Affairs (Russian Studies). Coincident with his graduate studies, he graduated from the Russian Basic Course at the Defense Language Institute. Captain Stanley next reported to Commander-in-Chief, United States Naval Forces Europe were he served in a variety of assignments within the Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence Directorate including Deputy Collection Manager Branch Head and as Current Intelligence Branch Head. During his tour, he deployed as Collection Manager to Joint Task Force PROVIDE PROMISE. His next assignment was to the Fleet Ocean Surveillance Information Facility (FOSIF) in Rota, Spain as Operations Officer and, subsequently, as Executive Officer. Following FOSIF's disestablishment in 1996, Captain Stanley reported to the Joint Analysis Center, RAF Molesworth, initially as Imagery Division Operations Officer and subsequently served as Chief of Imagery Division. He was next assigned as CVIC (Carrier Intelligence Center) Officer onboard USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74). Captain Stanley next served as Assistant Naval Attaché, United States Defense Attaché Office (USDAO) Moscow from January 2002 to August 2003. Following his Attaché tour in Russia, Captain Stanley returned to the Joint Analysis Center as Director of Operations. He transferred to his current assignment as Deputy Director of Intelligence U.S. Northern Command/NORAD in 2006 and subsequently deployed to Multi-National Force Iraq. Captain Stanley's decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (3 awards), Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and several unit and service awards. He is a designated Foreign Area Officer (FAO) for Europe/Eurasia. He is married to the former Kelle McMillan of San Diego, California; they have two sons, Matthew and Joshua, and two daughters, Sarra and Emma. |
