Navy Captain and medical doctor Jim Terbush was a distinguished guest speaker at the CHS Brown Bag Lecture Series on February 23, 2012. Captain Terbush offered keen insight into lessons learned from his recent experiences with the Haiti earthquake and Hurricane Irene which ravaged the U.S. east coast in August 2011.

The Center for Homeland Security, along with Staff, Adjunct Instructors, and its partner, CAS Group of Wyle Incorporated, recently concluded a series of training workshops for NORAD and U.S. Northern Command Headquarters personnel. The series of six workshops was designed to provide academic support to Homeland Defense (HD) and Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA) operations.

The Center for Homeland Security with its team of instructors, Dr. Scott Trimboli, Mr. Kurt Johnson, and Ms. Tina Markowski and Junior Teaching Assistants, Seniors Michelle Wood and Benta Christie, and Graduate Student Rebecca Menkhus, create an interactive learning environment with Freshman Seminar, “25”, the hour after Jack Bauer’s hyperactive day terrorizing terrorists. The Seminar introduces UCCS freshmen to the variety of threats to homeland security, including terrorism, cyber-attacks, germ warfare, natural disasters, and a host of other timely topics.
