Captain Bob Lally was born in Fresno, California. His educational achievements include an Industrial Engineering degree from Georgia Tech, Masters degree in National Strategic Studies from National War College and Naval Post Graduate School’s Executive Level Leadership Course.
In June 1984, Ensign Lally’s first operational tour was with the “Dragons” of Patrol Squadron FIFTY SIX at NAS Jacksonville, FL. The squadron directly supported combat operations against Libya (Operations El Dorado Canyon).
In December 1987, LT Lally was selected to report to VP-31 at NAS Moffett Field, CA as a Flight instructor. In October 1989, he reported to Carrier Group SIX at Mayport, FL, to serve aboard the USS FORRESTAL as Flag Secretary/Flag Lieutenant. He directly supported Operation Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Provide Comfort and Counter-narcotics operations.
LT Lally then reported to the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Washington, DC as the Patrol Sea/Shore Detailer and served as the Naval Aviation Shore Assignment Coordinator. In 1995, LCDR Lally began his department head tour with Patrol Squadron FORTY SIX, the “Grey Knights,” in Whidbey Island, WA. In November 1996, he reported to Commander, Patrol Wing TEN where he served as Operations Officer and Chief Staff Officer. LCDR Lally moved to Hawaii and assumed the duties of Assistant Chief of Staff for Manpower and Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) for COMMANDER, PATROL WINGS PACIFIC.
CDR Lally assumed Command of VP-9 Golden Eagles while on a CENTCOM/5th Fleet deployment in July of 2001. His squadron provided direct combat support to OEF – Afghanistan. During this deployment, VP-9 flew more hours than any Patrol Squadron since the Vietnam era.
In July 2002, CDR Lally reported to Commander Task Force 57 and 72. He served as Operations Officer, Chief of Staff and Deputy Commander. During his tenure, he directly supported combat operations in Afghanistan, Philippines, and IRAQI FREEDOM. Captain Lally has spent over 3 years of life in combat zones and has flown over 50 combat missions, which included multiple sensor to shooter direct action and strike missions.
In October 2004, Captain Lally assumed duty as Commodore of Task Force 67 (CTF-67). CTF-67 is the Black Sea commander and commands all P-3s, H-53s, C4I, and I-level maintenance assets (approximately 1800 personnel) in Naval Europe’s/6th Fleet’s theater. In addition, CTF-67 commands all forward deployed P-3 NATO assets in Sicily in support of Operation ACTIVE ENDEAVOR and major NATO exercises.
In July 2006, Captain Lally reported for his joint tour at NORAD- USNORTHCOM (N-NC). In his duties, he advises the Commander on all fiscal policies and procedures for capabilities, requirements, experimentation generation, planning and programming of resources, and execution management of resources for all headquarters elements and subordinate commands.
Captain Lally currently serves as the Chairman of University of Colorado at Colorado Spring’s (UCCS) Athletic Department’s Fundraising efforts for an $8 million World Class, State of the Art, Para-athlete (Wounded Warrior sponsored) Soccer, Track and Field Facility, is a Adjunct Professor for UCCS (Homeland Defense/Security Master’s degree level courses), member of El Pomar’s Sports Corporation’s Senior Executive Sports Leadership Forum, a member of UCCS’ Athletic Department’s Executive Advisory Board: Efforts entail raising $600K annually for student-athletes, Volunteered for US Open Seniors Golf Tournament and United Way.
His awards include the Legion of Merit (2), Bronze Star, Air Medal (2 Strike/Flight), and Navy Commendation Medals with two Combat Distinguishing devices. He also happens to have a great wife, and two awesome children. |
