Steve Boraz

Tom Pyszczynski is Director of Human Factors Research for the UCCS Homeland Security Center.  He received his Ph.D. in social psychology in 1980 and has been on the faculty in the Psychology Department at UCCS since 1986. His research focuses on psychological, social, and cultural factors that encourage and discourage support for terrorism and violent solutions to inter-group conflict.  He has published over 130 articles in scientific journals and 3 books, including “In the Wake of 9/11: The Psychology of Terror.”  He recently received a Presidential Citation from the American Psychological Association for his work on the role on Terror Management Theory.

Roger Sambrook is Director of Information Sciences Research for the UCCS Homeland Security Center and a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department. He received his Ph.D. in 2002 in Complex Systems and Brain Sciences, and has been on the UCCS faculty since 2004, serving on the graduate faculty in the Departments of Geography and now Psychology. He is an interdisciplinary researcher, working in Psychology, Geography, Complex Systems and Computer Science. His research focuses on human-computer interaction, modeling technological & organizational factors involved in terrorism and emergency management and the root-causes of terrorism. Current projects include:

- Emerency Management technology requirements analysis in collaboration with the United States Air Force GeoIntegration Office.

- Sex-based differences in online computer-gaming behaviors in collaboration with Dr. Michele Companion of the UCCS department of Sociology.

- Socio-economic root causes of terrorism in collaboration with Steven Radil of the University of Illinois.

Dr Sambrook is currently writing “Psychology and Terrorism” in collaboration with Dr. Elena Mastors at the Naval War College. This undergraduate textbook will be published by Blackwells in late 2009.
