Minor in Chemistry

A student may complete a minor in chemistry by finishing the following course work with grades of C or better.

General Chemistry: CHEM 103 and 106; 10 cr hrs

  • CHEM 101 and 102 cannot be substituted for these requirements.

Organic Chemistry: CHEM 331, 332, 333, and 334 or 331, 332, 337, and 338; 10 cr hrs

Additional Chemistry Courses: Select two courses (6 cr hrs) from:

  • Modern Inorganic Chemistry (CHEM 401)
  • Analytical Chemistry I (CHEM 417)
  • Biophysical Chemistry (CHEM 450) or Physical Chemistry I (CHEM 451)
  • Biochemistry Principles (CHEM 483).
  • General Biochemistry II (CHEM 482) if not taken as BIOL 482, or if not taking CHEM 483.
    • Note that BIOL 481 must be taken before CHEM 482.

Students electing the biochemistry or biotechnology electives as biology majors, must select non-biochemistry courses to complete a chemistry minor, because the biochemistry sequence is highly recommended for the biology major. Students should familiarize themselves with the prerequisite requirements for these courses.
