Departmental Honors
Opportunity is provided for qualified chemistry majors, including those with the
biochemistry option, to participate in the Chemistry Honors Program and graduate with
distinction, high distinction, or highest distinction in chemistry. Students interested in
this program should contact the Department chair during their junior year. To be eligible,
a student must meet the following requirements:
- Be a Chemistry Department major with a chemistry grade point average of at least 3.4.
- Complete advanced work in chemistry. At least 2 credit hours of
Independent Study (CHEM 940) and
completion of Seminar (CHEM 496) satisfy this requirement. Students in the Pre-Health and
Teacher Education options should see the Department chair about fulfilling this
requirement.
- Submit a written report based on research completed in CHEM 940 and make a presentation
based on this research (normally as part of CHEM 496). The written report will be due ten days before
the presentation. One copy is to be submitted to your adviser and one copy to the
Department chair.
