SPANISH
General Information:
Spanish
is one of the most spoken languages in the world. It is spoken as a first
language by about 352 million people, or by 417 million including non-native
speakers (according to 1999 estimates).
Because it has become such a popular language in today’s international world,
learning and being fluent in Spanish is an extremely valuable cultural link. A
major in Spanish, coupled with a major or minor in another discipline, can
open a wide variety of doors for all students.
During
your education, it might be a wise idea to travel to a foreign country or
study abroad in international exchange programs to learn more about the
culture. Volunteering language skills to community organizations, churches, or
programs that work with people who speak your target language can also be very
beneficial.
