FAQ

How do I sign my team up to play in a sport?

Come into the Rec. center and grab a roster entry form from the front desk attendant. Once your roster is filled out bring the form back into the Rec. center with your payment of $30.00. Make sure the team captain or a representative of the team attends the captains meeting to ensure scheduling.

What is the fee for playing an Intramural Sport?

The fee for playing in an Intramural Sport or competition is $30.00. This fee is specific to sports that are in a league format. Participating in a league means that you will play for more than one night, with up to five regular season games. Playing in a tournament, however, is free. These are one night events that are completed the day of the beginning of the tournament.

Why do I have to pay $30.00 to play an Intramural Sport?

The $30.00 team fee helps to pay for facility usage, lights, equipment, championship t-shirt, and referees. In comparison to other schools, this fee is fairly small and you can see what your money goes to.

What do I get if I win an intramural sport?

You get an awesome Championship t-shirt from the Rec. Center and a free burrito from Chipotle!

What if I don’t have enough people for a full team to play the sport?

Sign up or take a look at the free agent roster. This roster is full of students who want to play a sport but don’t have a team to play on. All the contact info is contained on the roster sheet for your use.

What if I’m the only one who wants to play a sport, but I don’t have a team to play on?

Sign up on the free agent roster at the front desk. Be sure to include all the necessary contact info. Also, it would be a good idea to attend the captains meeting to meet the captains and see which team needs a player or two.

Where do I get information about sports and the dates they are played on?

All information can be received from the Rec. Center front desk attendant, as well as from the Intramural Sports schedule. The information that is on the schedule is up to date. Every attempt is made to adhere to this schedule as much as possible. That being said, there are a few items that might change due to scheduling issues.

What does it mean for a league to be “open” ?

This means that all teams of any gender are allowed to played. Typically with the intramural sports we differentiate leagues based on Men’s, Women’s, and Co-rec. However, with an open league, an all women’s team can play a men’s team during the regular season. All teams are eligible for competition against other teams during the entire season; including playoffs.

Who should I talk to about re-scheduling a game during the season?

Just come into the Rec. Center and talk to the Intramural Coordinator or the Intramural Supervisor. From that point they will give you the contact information of the other team that you are scheduled to play, as well as up to three days where you game could be re-scheduled for. Beyond that it is up to you and the captain of the other team to determine which of those three days would be best for you to play on. Once you have cleared it up, let the intramural staff know and we will make sure your game is played at that date and time.

Where can I go to look at questions that I have regarding eligibility?

For any questions regarding eligibility just take a look at the Intramural Handbook. This outlines any and all questions that you may have about eligibility for you or for any one on your team.

Can I have players who play on more than one team?

No. A player is ONLY allowed to play on ONE men’s or women’s team, and ONE co-rec team. If a player does play on more than one team then the teams that he or she plays on will forfeit that intramural competition.

            Where are our games played?

Depending on the sport that you are competing in, you could either play at 4-Diamonds, Mountain Lion Stadium, or at the UCCS Rec. Center. Flag Football, outdoor soccer, and softball will all be held at the 4-Diamonds complex. The rest of the sports will be at the Rec. Center unless otherwise posted.

Who should attend the captains meeting?

Intramural participants who are willing to be a representative of their intramural team are asked to be the captain. On the roster entry form there is a spot for this person to place their name.

What if I can't make the captains meeting?

In order for your team to be schuduled in the league, there must be one representative of your team at the meeting. Failure to do so will dis-allow your team from participation in the league, barring prior arragments made by the team captain. Some member from the team MUST be in attendance in order to recieve their copy of the rules and to ensure that their team is scheduled for intramural play on nights that they can indeed play on.

What does it mean to be a captain?

Basically as a captain you are a representative for your team. Any scheduling of your team will be done through you. You are the contact person for your team. Also, if there ever is an issue with any member of your team during intramural play., the official of the game, or the intramural supervisor will speak specifically to you. You are charged with making sure that your team is under control at all times. As a captain you are held to a higher standard of sportsmanship that the other members of your team. Sportsmanship is the corner stone of our program here at UCCS, and we expect each team and each captain to set and follow the example that others have set before them.

Can I have students from other schools play on my team?

No. Before each game your roster will be checked to ensure that all of the players on your roster are eligible by having each participant show his/her UCCS student ID. Failure to have this ID at the time of team check in will dis-allow the student from playing in the sports, even if the student attends UCCS. Bring your student ID to every intramural competition to ensure your attendance and participation in the event. Students from other schools are welcome to come and watch the game, but they are NOT allowed to compete. Any attempt to play by this student will result in a forfeit for that team.

Can Pikes Peak Community College Students play on my team?

Yes. We do allow PPCC students to participate in UCCS Intramurals. However, there may be no more than TWO PPCC students on any one team, and each student must pay a fee of $10.00 for the season. If the season happens to be an indoor event, the one time payment of $10.00 will grant the PPCC student access to ONLY the gym or pool area (depending on the sport). If the student wishes to use the entire facility then he or she must pay an additional admission fee of five dollars.

What happens in the event of bad weather?

If the intramural sport is being played outside the intramural coordinator, supervisor, and officials hold the right to end and intramural competition if they feel that the playing conditions are unsafe for any reason. In the event that any event is cancelled, any and all attemps will be made to re-schedule the games for another date. If the sport is played at the Rec. Center the games will be played unless the University has closed the Campus for any reason. Again, any and all attemps to re-schedule the cancelled event will be made. The intramural supervisor will contact the team captain if there are any game cancellations. Contact your team captain if you have any questions.

What is the officials clininc?

The officials clininc is the intramural programs training program for their officials. People interested in becoming an intramural official should attend this meeting to get a better idea of what it means to be an official. This is also the hiring process for the intramural program in becoming an intramural official. Meaning that, we will train you on how to be an official, and then test you on the material that has been presented. If you pass then we will ask you to work for us at Campus Rec!
