Master of Science: Forensic Science Option

The Department of Health Sciences offers a program leading to the degree of Master of Science (MSc) in Forensic Science. Graduate students pursue coursework in forensic science and other related disciplines (biology, chemistry, psychology and sociology) providing the students with a diverse integrated curriculum of study. 

Admission Requirements

Application Deadlines:

SUMMER : April 1st of each year
FALL: June 1st of each year
SPRING: November 1st of each year

Admission to the MSc Forensic Science program requires that the student meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree from an accredited College or University
  • Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Applicants must submit Parts I and II of the graduate application form
    • Signed In-State Tuition Form
    • 3 letters of reference
    • Selective service form (if applicable)
    • 2 copies of OFFICIAL transcripts and an application fee of $60.00
    • Downloadable forms available at http://web.uccs.edu/gradschl/app/#forms
  • Undergraduate Statistics Course
  • It is recommended, but not required, that students have completed an Inferential Statistics course such as HSCI 206
  • A GRE entrance exam IS required (effective Fall 2008 semester)

Course Study Requirements

  1. Students must complete 30 semester hours of course work, of which 15 or more must be at the graduate level (500 or above). 

  2. Students must complete a minimum of 18 semester hours of upper division and graduate courses in Forensic Science offered by the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Specific required and elective courses are listed below:

HSCI 637 Violence and Human Rights Issues (Recommended/Optional Graduate Forensic Course)

HSCI 439 Forensic Photography (Recommended/Optional Undergraduate Forensic Course)

HSCI 441 Forensic Chemistry and Toxicology (Recommended/Optional Undergraduate Forensic Course)

Students complete a research project as part of  HSCI 702

** required courses A total of 6 Optional credit hours from either graduate or undergraduate level course work is REQUIRED.

A total of 6 secondary credit hours from the following departments are REQUIRED:

  • Sociology
