Sweden for Father-in-Law Nobel Prize Festivities

Had the privilege of the both of being invited to Swden to see my father-in-law who is Dr. Ei-ichi Negishi of Purdue University to get the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. A once in a lifetime achievement !

At Chicago O'Hare ready to board the Airbus to Stockholm. Name of the plane is Erik Viking.

Step outside for a cold one ! Colder than Anarctica ! Not shown was we were at 38,000 feet altitude ! Not too far from the Prime Meridian !

Going down Highway E4 from Arlanda Airport to Stockholm

Harley shop, forgot to go there to get my Harley T-Shirt !

Looking outside from the hotel room - Raddison Blu Strand. In the first picture, see a red circle above the roofline - it is the NK Department Store with the rotating clock. Clock on one side and the other side in green is the NK Logo

Hotel bathroom. Like the modern fixtures however, don't like not having a shower curtain !

Inside the room. Brought my Apple MacBook which also had Skype for phone calls

My old iPhone on the left and my newer one on the right. The old iPhone was set where it was SIM unlocked and set with a T-Mobile account but the phone would never hook into the Swedish phone network. The phone on the right connected to the Telenor SE network but calls were $1.50 per minute. I used Skype on my Macbook for calls to the states. The old iPhone was intended where I could be reached while out and about and Skype was setup with a Swedish number where it was redirected to the old iPhone.

At the reception at the Patent Museum - my wife and I and a rare picture that I am dressed up ! I usually like doing a blue shirt versus a white shirt

My brother-in-law - Greg

The crew from Purdue with Purdue President's husband, mother & father in law, Purdue President and Dean of Science

At the dinner at unknown restaurant

With my tux on, another rare glimpse of me dressed up again !

Inside where the Nobel prizes are awarded to the laureates by the King of Sweden

Ceiling inside the Stockholm City Hall where the banquet was held. Computer generated sky and it moved around !

People at the table including some family

My seat at the table

Salad which included something that looked like SPAM !

Stairway where the lareautes are escorted down to the main table

More food !

The prize "diploma" shown

An old Saab. Took a peek inside and looks like it has a "three on a tree" shifter

The subway station I entered near downtown

At KTH which is a technical university

Inside the subway station at the Stockholm University

View from one of the buildings at Stockholm U.

For both Stockholm U and KTH, I would have like to gotten sweatshirts for both places

Having a beer with a gentleman and his wife who I met in New Zealand in 2006/2007. I usually like the more unusual beers versus the big brands

Inside the hotel at day & night looking up

Inside an unamed restaurant near the NK Department Store. Like the Blue LED lighting

The guardpost and changing of the guard at the palace. Had to stand outside of the "box". It was a very cold day ! Had shoes on ! It was 15 degrees F

The four of us - Stefan, my wife, myself and Stefan's wife. The couple who I met in New Zealand

The Vasa

Hotel public bathroom. Again, modern fixtures and private stalls which are private rooms but very, very small !

At Stockholm's Arlanda airport waiting to go back to Chicago. Like the modern design of the terminal and jetway.

The camera in front of the plane - being towed out from the gate. Unfortunately the camera was turned off before take off !

Flying over Sweden on the way back to Chicago

Danish computer magazine from the plane's magazine rack
