Professor of Military Science
LTC James M. DesJardin

 LTC James DesJardin is a native of San Diego, California and enlisted in the Army in 1987. He is a 1988 graduate of the Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Infantry.

After his commissioning in the Infantry, he was assigned to the 3rd Armored Division (Spearhead) and served as Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer and Headquarters and Headquarters Executive Officer for 5th Battalion 5th Cavalry in Kirchgoens, Germany. Redeploying to the United States and prior to the Advance Course he was assigned to A Company 1st Battalion 29th Infantry Regiment as a Company Executive Officer. After the Infantry Advanced Course, he was assigned to Fort Drum, New York and served as the Battalion S4 and as Commander, Headquarters Company, for the 10th Mountain Division’s 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment.

After company command, LTC DesJardin was assigned as an Associate Professor for Military Science at the University of California-Davis.  Upon completion of that assignment he then served as an Observer Controller and Senior Battle Analyst for the Center for Army Lessons Learned at the National Training Center, Fort Irwin, California. After attendance at the Command and General Staff School at Fort Leavenworth, he reported to Fort Benning, Georgia, where he served with the 3rd Infantry Division as the Battalion Operations Officer and Executive Officer for the 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment where he served during Operation Iraqi Freedom I. LTC DesJardin ended his tour with the 3rd Brigade as the Brigade Rear Detachment Commander for the 3rd Brigade Combat Team as they executed operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III. LTC DesJardin is currently the Professor of Military Science at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs.

LTC DesJardin’s military education includes the Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, U.S. Army Airborne and Air Assault School, and the Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle Commander’s Course, Jungle Warfare School, the Combined Arms Staff Service School and the Command and General Staff School. LTC DesJardin has a Bachelors of Arts from United States International University and a Masters of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University. LTC DesJardin’s decorations include: the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Global War on Terrorism and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge with star and the Expert Infantry Badge.

 



                                                                                                                            

 

 

 Battalion Executive Officer

MAJ Gregory Cyr
 


 Major Gregory J. Cyr earned his commission as a Distinguished Military Graduate from the Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, GA, in 1993 as an Armor officer. He spent nearly nine years of prior service time as an enlisted soldier and noncommissioned officer while assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment and 5th Special Forces Group. Major Cyr holds a B.S. in Human Resource Management from Regis University.

Major Cyr's assignments include Tank Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer, 3rd Battalion, 68th Armor Regiment, 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort Carson, CO; Executive Officer, HHC, 1st Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Casey, Korea; after completing the Armor Officer Advanced Course in 1997, he was assigned as the Battalion Maintenance Officer, 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort Carson, CO; Major Cyr completed the Special Forces Qualification Course at Fort Bragg, NC, in 2001 and was assigned as a Detachment Commander and in 2003 as the Battalion Plans Officer, 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Carson, CO. Major Cyr was assigned as Assistant Professor of Military Science, University of Colorado, Colorado Springs in May 2004.

His Deployments include OPERATION SAFE PASSAGE, Pakistan; OPERATION DESERT SHEILD/STORM, SWA; OPERATION URBAN FREEDOM, Kuwait; OPERATION JOINT GUARD, Kosovo; OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, Northern Iraq.  In addition, he has been on exercises in the following countries: Panama, Honduras, Germany, Jordan, Korea, and Romania.

Major Cyr's awards and decorations include the Silver Star, the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (5 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (3 OLC), the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service and Expeditionary Medals, the NATO Medal, the Special Forces Tab, the Ranger Tab, the Combat Infantryman Badge (2nd Award), the Master Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, the German Parachutist Badge and the Jordanian Parachutist Badge.

 


 

  


 

 

Battalion Training Officer (S-3)



Captain Koontz is a native of Moscow, Idaho and enlisted in the Army in 1995.  He is a 2001 graduate of the University of Idaho and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Armor Branch.

After his commissioning in the Armor Branch, he was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 63rd Armor in Vilseck, Germany and served as a Tank Platoon Leader, Support Platoon Leader, and Company Executive Officer through deployments to Kosovo and Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom II (OIF II).  Redeploying to the United States, CPT Koontz attended the Maneuver Captains Career Course at FT Knox, Kentucky.  Upon completion of the Captains Career Course, he was stationed at FT Carson, Colorado to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment; where he served as the Battalion Logistics Officer, Heavy Weapons Company Commander and Headquarters and Headquarters Company Commander.  CPT Koontz served as the Destroyer Company Commander throughout the surge in Baghdad during OIF VI.  Upon completion of his Company Command time, CPT Koontz was assigned to Army ROTC at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs as an Assistant Professor of military Science and the Battalion Operations Officer.

CPT Koontz’s military education includes the Armor Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, U.S. Army Airborne and Air Assault School, the Air movement Planner’s Course,  and the Hazardous Materials  technical certifier’s course.  CPT Koontz has a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Idaho.  CPT Koontz’s decorations include:  the Bronze Star with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal, The Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Achievement medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the National Defense Service Ribbon, the Kosovo Campaign Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Ribbon with the numeral five, the NATO Medal, the Parachutist’s  badge, the Air Assault badge, and the Expert Infantryman’s badge.



 

 

 

CPT Mitchell RobertsRoberts

 

Captain Mitchell M. Roberts is from Idaho, enlisted in the Idaho National Guard in 1999 as a 13E Fire Direction Control Specialist.  He earned a Bachelorette Degree in Sociology from Idaho State University where he participated in the ROTC program.  He was commissioned a second lieutenant as a Quartermaster Officer with a branch detail to Field Artillery.

After commissioning, he served as Gold Bar recruiter for Idaho State University prior to attending OBC at Ft. Sill Oklahoma.  After OBC, he was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division in Ft. Campbell KY where he served as company Fire Support Officer in C-502nd and an Executive officer for F-526 BSB.  In his last assignment while serving on a MiTT team, he was a Logistics advisor to an Iraqi BN.

CPT Roberts Military Education includes Field Artillery Officer Basic course, Air Assault School, Ranger School, Combined Logistics OAC course, Military Transition Team Training Ft. Riley Kansas.

CPT Jesse L. DeWitt Dewitt

Captain DeWitt was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS), in 2004, earning a Bachelors of Art degree in history with a minor in military science.  Upon graduation from UCCS, he served as a tactical adviser for the National Advanced Leadership Course on the Audie Murphy Assault Course Committee at Fort Lewis, Washington. Following this assignment, CPT DeWitt attended the Military Police Officers Basic Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and was assigned as a Platoon Leader from December 2004-November 2005 in the 39th Military Police Detachment, Fort Shafter Military Police Battalion, Fort Shafter Hawaii.  While a platoon leader, CPT Dewitt managed and conducted Law Enforcement operations for a community of over 20,000 Soldiers, Airmen, and Sailors.  CPT DeWitt was then re-assigned as a platoon leader for the 58th Military Police Combat Support Company, Schofield Barracks Hawaii, under the 25th Military Police Battalion, from 15 November 2005- 01 July 2006. CPT DeWitt was then selected to serve as the Executive Officer from 01 July 2006 – 01 August 2009 for the 58th Military Police Company. While serving as an Executive Officer, CPT DeWitt was selected to assist in the relocation of the 728th Military Police Battalion from Korea under the Department of Defense Integrated Global Positioning and Basing Strategy. This task also included the de-activation of the 25th Military Police Battalion. Once the 728th Military Battalion and 8th Military Police Brigade were re-located to Hawaii, CPT DeWitt was selected to serve as the 728th Military Police Battalion S4 from 15 November 2006 – 1 August 2009. As the S4, CPT DeWitt deployed with the 728th Military Police Battalion in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 07-08. While serving in Iraq, CPT DeWitt participated in several highly successful operations such as Harvest Reaper and Mosul Surge. CPT DeWitt re-deployed to Schofield Barracks Hawaii, 01 February 2008 and left the active duty army on 01 August 2008. CPT DeWitt is now serving in the Colorado National Guard.  

     CPT DeWitt’s military education includes Military Police Officer’s Basic Course, Unit Movement Officer’s Course, Unit Supply Officer’s Course, Environmental Officer’s Course, OIF Officer Contracting Course, and Government Purchase Approving Official Course.   

     CPT DeWitt’s awards include the Bronze Star, the Valorous Unit Award, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (4 oak leaf cluster), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Iraq Campaign Medal.

 CPT Kim Hageman entered Active Duty in 2001.  She was commissioned through ROTC at Youngstown State University as an Ordnance Officer.  After commissioning, she went straight to Fort Lewis as the Commander of the APFT Committee for LDAC.  Following this assignment CPT Hageman went to the Ordnance Officer Basic Course at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.

CPT Hageman has served as an Automotive / Armament Platoon Leader, Detachment Commander, and Battalion Adjutant at the 64th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team at Fort Carson, Co.

CPT Hageman's awards and ribbons include the Army Commendation Medal (3rd award), Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon

MSG Randy J. Collins


 

MSG Randy J. Collins entered the Army on 29 April 1991. His first assignment was to the 2nd BN, 14th INF REGT “Golden Dragons” of the 10th MTN DIV, as a Scout Observer.  In 1993, he deployed to Mogadishu, Somalia in support of Operation Restore Hope and served on the Quick Reaction Force for the October 3rd battle.  In 1994, again with the 2-14th, he deployed to Operation Uphold Democracy, in Haiti.  His TO&E service also includes the 1st BN, 504th PIR of the 82nd ABN DIV as a Rifle Team Leader, Squad Leader and Weapons Squad Leader and the 1st BN, 21st INF “Gimlets” of the 25th INF DIV in Hawaii as a Rifle Squad Leader and Scout Squad Leader.   During Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003 - 2004, he served as a Motorized Platoon Sergeant in Battle Company, 2nd BN (ABN), 503rd INF in Kirkuk, Iraq.  Post-Iraq, he served as a Rifle Platoon Sergeant in Chosen Company, 2nd BN (ABN), 503rd INF in Vicenza, Italy.  During Operation Enduring Freedom (VI) in Afghanistan in 2005-2006, he served as the 74th Infantry Detachment (Long Range Surveillance) First Sergeant.  Additionally, from May 2006 to October 2008 and during Operation Enduring Freedom (VIII), he served as the “March or Die” First Sergeant for Charlie Company, 1st BN (ABN), 503rd INF, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team.  His TDA assignments include serving as a Senior Instructor/Writer in Charlie Company, 4th Ranger Training Battalion, Fort Benning, Georgia.  His current assignment is as the Senior Military Science Instructor for the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs ROTC program.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with Valor Device, the Bronze Star Medal (3rd OLC), the Meritorious Service Medal (2nd OLC), the Army Commendation Medal with Valor device, the Army Commendation Medal (7th OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (7th OLC), the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (2nd Bronze Star), the Humanitarian Service Ribbon (2nd Bronze Star), the NCOES Ribbon (Roman Numeral 3), the Overseas Service Ribbon (Roman Numeral 3), the UN Medal (2nd Award), the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal (GWOTEM), the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal (GWOTSM), the Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2nd award) and the NATO Medal. He has also been awarded the Expert Infantryman’s Badge (EIB), the Combat Infantryman’s Badge (CIB-2nd Award), the Master Parachutists Badge, the Pathfinder Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the Ranger Tab, the British Parachutist Badge, the Valorous Unit Award and the Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal.

MSG Collins has graduated from Airborne School, Air Assault School, Ranger School, the Pathfinder Course, the Jumpmaster Course, the Long Range Surveillance Leaders Course, the Malaysian Combat Trackers Course, PLDC, BNCOC, ANCOC, the Bradley Transition Course, the Total Army Instructor Trainer’s Course, the Tactics Certification Course, the Emergency Medical Technicians Course and numerous other local courses.  He received the Order of Saint Maurice Medal (Centurion Award) in 2008 and was inducted into the prestigious SGT Audie Murphy Club in 1996.

He holds and Associates of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Troy State University in Troy, Alabama and continues to work towards his Bachelor’s Degree

MSG Pedro L. Celestino



 Since his voluntary enlistment on 29 August 1977 in the United States Army Reserve, MSG Pedro Celestino has served the Army and the nation with distinction in many leadership positions of increasing responsibility.  Most remarkable about MSG Celestino is that he has held leadership positions in tactical organizations at every NCO rank and when he was not leading and training soldiers in operational units, he was leading and training NCOs at NCO Academies, training initial entry soldiers, or training cadets to be future leaders for the Army.  

MSG Celestino's first active duty assignment was with the 3-32 IN, 7ID.  Upon being promoted to SFC in 1990 and assuming the responsibility of senior NCO, he was selected as Drill Sergeant of the Year for Fort Knox for two consecutive years in 1990 and 1991.  He was selected to train Drill Sergeant Candidates where his expertise and leadership were instrumental in training future Drill Sergeants.  In addition, he was responsible for and instructed Fort Knox's Initial Entry Cadre Training Course where he ensured training for all newly assigned company commanders, 1SGs, battalion key staff and CSMs.  

In 1992, MSG Celestino was assigned to HHC, 3-21 IN where he assumed responsibility as Platoon Leader and Platoon Sergeant for the Anti-Armor Platoon.  He also served as the Anti-Armor Advisor for the Battalion Commander and as the HHC First Sergeant for two consecutive months.  1SG Celestino then served in B/2-54 IN, an initial entry training company which graduated over 2200 infantryman during his 20 months as 1SG.  

In 1997, MSG Celestino was selected to serve as the Senior Military Science Instructor and Commandant of Cadets for the Army ROTC program at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.   Currently, MSG Celestino serves as the Training NCO and is the MS II instructor.

MSG Antonio Cruz

Master Sergeant Antonio Cruz entered the U.S. Army on July 17, 1989, and attended Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) with Bravo Battery, 1st  Battalion, 56th  Air Defense Artillery Regiment, Fort Bliss, Texas.

Master Sergeant Cruz has served in numerous positions, his assignments include; Gunner Bravo Battery, 5th Battalion, 3rd Air Defense Artillery Regiment, Wackernheim, Germany 1989-1992; Team Chief , Bravo Battery, 3rd Battalion, 62nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 10th Mountain Division Fort Drum, New York 1992-1997; Section Sergeant, Alpha Battery, 1st Battalion, 62nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment, Schofield Barracks Hawaii 1997-1999; Platoon Sergeant, 3rd Battalion, 62nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 10th Mountain Division Fort Drum, New York 2000-2004; Battalion Master Gunner 2nd Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky 2004-2007.

 Master Sergeant Cruz served in several combat tours.  He served during Desert Shield/Desert Storm, SWA 1990-1991; Operation Restore Hope, Somalia  1993; Operation Iraqi Freedom III 2005-2006.  He also participated in Operation Provide Comfort, Haiti 1994; Operation Joint Endeavor, Kosovo 2000.  Master Sergeant Cruz has attended numerous Army Schools and training programs including; PLDC; BNCOC; ANCOC; Avenger Master Gunner’s Course; Unit Movement Officer Course; NBC Area Defense Course; Unit Prevention Leader’s Course.

SFC Gener Molina

 Sergeant First Class  Molina  entered the U.S. Army on active duty on May 1982 as an Armor Crewman (19E/19K) and trained in M60A1/A3 and M1/M1A1/A2 series Main Battle tank. 

His duty assignments included 2-77 Armor, 9th Infantry Division in Ft. Lewis, WA (1982); A- Troop 4-7 Cavalry, 2nd Infantry Division in Camp Garry Owen, Korea (1986); 2-77 Armor, 4th Infantry Division in Ft. Carson, CO (1987); 2-72 Armor, 2nd Infantry Division in Camp Casey, Korea (1991); 3-68 (3rd BCT) Armor, 4th Infantry Division in Ft. Carson, CO in 1992; 2-37(3ID)/2-63 Armor, 1st Infantry Division in Vilseck, Germany (1995); 1-68 (3rd BCT) Armor, 4th Infantry Division in Ft. Carson, CO (1998) and United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point, NY from 2001 to 2004.

SFC Molina's duty positions have consisted of the following: tank driver, loader, gunner and tank commander; section sergeant; battalion ammunitions NCO; OP Commander (TF Able Sentry in Macedonia); Platoon Sergeant; Battalion Assistant Operations NCO; Assistant Military Science Course Director and Military Science Instructor in the United States Military Academy (USMA) in West Point, NY. 


SFC Molina has qualified several "Distinguished" Tank Table XII (Platoon Gunnery) while serving as a Platoon Sergeant.  He was inducted in the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club (Excellence in NCO Leadership) in 1993, he was also awarded the Order of Saint George (Excellence in Leadership in Armor as a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer-Bronze Medal) in 2001.

Sergeant First Class Molina holds a Masters in Public Administration (in Management and Operations) from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, NY and a Bachelors of Science in Liberal Studies from Excelsior College in Albany, NY.

SFC Andrei J. Williamson Williamson

Sergeant First Class Andrei Williamson entered the U.S. Army on May 07, 1993, and attended Basic Training with Delta Company 1st Battalion 33rd Field Artillery, Fort Sill, Oklahoma and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) with Bravo Battery, 1st Battalion 56th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, Fort Bliss, Texas.

Sergeant First Class Williamson has served in numerous positions, his assignments include; Patriot Missile Crewmember Charlie Battery, 5th Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, Grossauheim, Germany 1993-1997; Launcher Assistant Section Chief , Charlie Battery, 3rd Battalion, 2nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment, Fort Bliss, Texas 1997-2001; Platoon Sergeant, Bravo Battery, 5th Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, Grossauheim, Germany 2001-2005; Platoon Sergeant, 1st Battalion, 1st Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 94th Army Air and Missile Defense Command, Okinawa, Japan 2005-2009.
