    1. When is a good time to apply to the University?

The earlier the better! The UCCS Admissions Office strongly encourages you to apply at least ninety days before the first day of the semester you wish to enroll. Technically, we accept applications for the current semester up until the census date (drop/add date); but, we cannot guarantee an adequate selection of courses for those who choose to wait to apply.

    2. I got bad grades at the first college I attended and I don't want that work to transfer. Do I have to list that school on my application?

Students may not disregard any part of their previous educational background. Admission decisions are based upon cumulative academic performance; however, extenuating circumstances are also taken into account. Failure to submit transcripts from all institutions previously attended may be cause for canceling the admission process or dismissing the student.

    3. Do I need to list a college/university on my application that I only attended for one non-credit class?

Students must list all institutions of higher education they have attended on the application. If you completed coursework at an institution of higher education, but it cannot be reflected on an official transcript, a formal letter on letterhead from that institution verifying that no credit was awarded must be submitted to the UCCS Admissions Office.

    11. How do I qualify for residency/how does in-state tuition work?

In order to qualify for residency, a student age 23 or older must have an established domicile in the State of Colorado for at least one year, with the intent to remain in Colorado permanently. Residency for students under the age of 23 is based upon the established domicile of their parents or legal guardians. When petitioning for residency, factors that affect the decision include, but are not limited to: home ownership or home rental agreement in Colorado, Colorado vehicle registration, Colorado driver's license, Colorado voter registration, and payment of Colorado income tax.

    12. How do I petition for resident tuition?

Contact the UCCS Admissions Office to obtain a residency petition packet. If the student is age 23 or older, basis for residency primarily depends upon the student's intention of making Colorado his or her permanent home. For students 23 and under, residency is based upon the parent's information unless the student is married or legally emancipated. Residency petitions are due by the census date (drop/add date) for the semester the applicant wishes to enroll.

    13. The application states that listing my social security number is optional. If I don't list it, will my application process be affected?

Your social security number is not a factor in an admission decision. However, the UCCS Financial Aid Office requires your SSN to be on file for award purposes; and, to assess your eligibility for the College Opportunity Fund (COF). If you are seeking financial aid, it is in your best interest to list your SSN on your application.

    14. How long do I have to wait after I apply to know if I've been accepted?

Once an application has been submitted, it can take 10-14 business days for a decision to be made. However, there are several factors affecting the expediency of an admission decision. It is important to submit all required credentials and the application fee (if required) as soon as possible in order to have a complete application file. In most cases, an admission decision cannot be made if an applicant's file is incomplete.
