Susan Szpyrka is the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.  In this position, Ms. Szpyrka provides leadership for the budget management, coordination, integration, and support of various services, programs, management functions and activities within Finance and Administration. She also serves in a campus-wide leadership role, leading the campus in developing and implementing enterprise and business initiatives. Ms. Szpyrka guides the development, implementation, and monitoring of UCCS auxiliary operating and capital budgets. She also oversees the development, of institutional policies and means of compliance with institutional policy and applicable state and federal laws.  Ms. Szpyrka serves as the contract manager for all campus-wide revenue contracts and acts as the Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration in his absence.  Ms. Szpyrka serves as the Chief of Staff to the Chancellor on all issues related to business initiatives implementation; high-level community, system, state and federal issues management; and resolution of complex patron concerns and issues.  Ms. Szpyrka directly supervises the directors of the Recreation Center and Recreation Services, Residence Life and Housing, University Center (including the campus child care center), Conference Services and Scheduling, Auxiliary Marketing Services (including the campus bookstore, copy center, and mail and shipping services), Public Safety (including police operations, parking and transportation services, environmental health and safety, and campus risk management), Auxiliary Accounting Services, and two executive assistants. Ms. Szpyrka also serves as a campus sexual harassment officer.

Ms. Szpyrka's association with the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs spans three decades beginning in 1976 when she first attended UCCS as a freshman. She earned a bachelor's degree in anthropology and a master's degree in public administration from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. She began her career with the University in 1984 working as an employee in the UCCS Bookstore. Ms. Szpyrka is the recipient of the 1990 UCCS Outstanding Staff Member of the Year Award, the 1992 University of Colorado System Staff Council Service Excellence Award, the 1998 UCCS Outstanding Staff Member of the Year Award, the 1999 UCCS Special Chancellor's Award, the 2001 Business for Our Environment Clean Air Campaign Award and in 2006 was named the Outstanding MPA Graduate Student in the Graduate School of Public Affairs. Ms. Szpyrka's service to the University includes election to the position of Staff Council President in 1989, appointment as the campus sexual harassment officer, appointments to numerous search committees, appointment to the Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory Committee from 2002-2006, and appointment to various academic and facilities strategic planning committees.

Ms. Szpyrka has taught in the Freshman Seminar Program and the Sport and Leisure Program and has developed and taught numerous professional development programs.  Prior to her appointment as the Associate Vice Chancellor in 2006, Ms. Szpyrka served as the UCCS Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police.
