Standardized Testing

The University Testing Center offers a limited number of standardized/entrance exams including the ACT, GRE Subject Tests, Miller Analogies Test (MAT) and the Reasoning Skills Test (RST).

The ACT is an entrance exam for incoming undergraduate students. The results are only valid for admission to UCCS. If you have taken the residual ACT you must wait 60 days before you can retest. The English portion of the ACT is offered for placement into UCCS English courses. Each of the ACT multiple-choice tests is constructed to measure knowledge and skills typically taught in high school that are important for successfully completing a college education.  The exam consists of four parts: English, Mathematics, Science, and Reading.

The University Testing Center is an approved proctor for the paper-based GRE Subject Tests. The Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) Subject Tests are taken by individuals applying to graduate programs in natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, humanities and arts, education, business, and other fields. The Reasoning Skills Test (RST) is for students wishing to test out of ID 105. ID 105 is a quantitative and qualitative reasoning skills course. It is designed to bring incoming students up to a minimum competency in quantitative skills. It includes such topics such as logic arithmetic, graphing, statistics, problem solving skills, and algebraic skills.
Students are recommended to study for the exam before making a test appointment.  The textbook is recommended and can be purchased in the UCCS Bookstore. This text is also available on reserve at the Kraemer Family Library. The book is called “Reasoning Skills for Everyday Life” 2nd Edition by James F. Burkhart. Estimate Cost is $52.95

  • Time limit = 2 hours
  • Cost is $30.00
  • To pass a score of 60 is needed
  • The test is given in 4 parts (Scantron Exam). Each part takes 30 minutes and is worth 25 points
  • Bring: Photo ID, pencils, $30.00, and a calculator (graphing calculators are not allowed)
  • Students can only take one time per semester. Summer semester counts as one semester

The MAT is a high-level test of analytical ability that requires the solution of problems stated as analogies. The MAT consists of 120 partial analogies that you have 60 minutes to complete. The test measures your ability to recognize relationship between ideas, your fluency in the English language, and your general knowledge of the humanities, natural sciences, mathematics, and social sciences.

The MAT is a requirement for some graduate programs and used at UCCS for graduate admission into the College of Education. The test is an online computerized exam.

Cost: $80.00 - Payment is due upon arrival at check in on test day. The Testing Center may accept cash, check and debit/credit cards.  Please bring two forms of photo identification, i.e. driver’s license, passport, student I.D.
