Bio: Catherine (Katie) Kaukinen is an Associate Professor in the School of Public Affairs at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and is the Director of Academic Programs in Criminal Justice. Catherine received her Ph.D. in Sociology in 2001 from the University of Toronto. Her research interests include intimate partner violence, risk and protective factors for violent victimization, and the relationship between family structure and adolescent development. She is currently conducting a National Institute of Justice sponsored project examining the effect of intensive enforcement of no-contact orders in cases of misdemeanor criminal domestic violence on victim well-being and offender recidivism. Her research has appeared in Criminology, Journal of Marriage and Family, Journal of Research in Crime & Delinquency, Journal of Interpersonal Violence, Violence and Victims, and Health and Social Care in the Community, among other outlets.
Dr. Kaukinen is a high energy person, living by the philosophy that individuals should not complain, but rather take action.
