UCCS will be represented at the Olympics this year not only by an athlete, but a lecturer in the College of Business and the Sport Management Program.
Darrin Steele is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Education and has taught at UCCS for three years. He is also the CEO of the U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Federation and is headed to Sochi as a consultant to the USA bobsled team.
"I can be involved in a number of things," Steele said. "It will be sort of as needed; I'll get involved as things come up."
In the 2010 winter games in Vancouver, Canada, Steele worked directly with coaches and the High Performance Director. Additionally, when a luge athlete was killed during a practice run, Steele spent time with the media as a spokesperson. At the time, Steele was the vice president of communication for the International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation.
