Glenwood Springs High School graduate Travis Whitman recently committed to the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, where he will compete in track and field.

Below is a Q&A with Whitman about his decision to attend UCCS and his time as a high school athlete:

Why UCCS?

“I really liked Colorado Springs, the town. I really wanted to stay in state as well. It seemed like the best option in state.”

Academic focus:

“I'm majoring in sports management. I hope to be a sports agent in the future, for athletes.”

Does UCCS have a good program for that?

“Yeah. I think it's one of the best ones west of the Mississippi River. That's what someone told me.”

What are you most looking forward to about college?

“Freedom and being able to do whatever, to go out on my own.”

Proudest moment from Glenwood track and field:

“For track, definitely when our 4x4 team got second [at state] when I was a junior.”

What will you miss most about home?

“The home-cooked meals, for sure. And all my friends back here that haven't graduated yet.”
