Arguably one of the most important things students should do is to begin building a body of work and job-specific skills in the sport field. There is a lot of competition for jobs in the sport industry, and the best way for a student to distinguish themselves is to accumulate experience and skills through volunteering, field experience and internships as well as making contacts in the industry and networking with future colleagues. Countless opportunities exist for our students to get these experiences - local, state, regional, national and international events are constantly being held in the area and the chance to get involved is always there. Very few organizations (if any) will turn away knowledgeable, skilled help! Almost daily some organization is hosting an event, or preparing to do so, and extra hands can always be used - so get off the couch and get in the game.
