Concentration in Child and Adolescent Psychology (Psychological Science MA)

The primary objective of the concentration will be to prepare graduate students for further academic training at the doctoral level in child and adolescent psychology. Students who complete the concentration will be competitive for application to numerous doctoral programs, such as human development, and others. The concentration will also prepare students who wish to pursue careers in Child and Adolescent psychology at the MA-level, such as research positions in social service agencies, child care services, and other educational, health, or judicial settings.

Child and Adolescent Psychology Concentration Requirements

Students in the Child and Adolescent Psychology concentration will be required to (a) complete all components of the graduate curriculum for the Psychological Science MA, (b) enroll in coursework on Child or Adolescent Psychology such as the Lifespan Core Course or other extant courses that cover such topics, (c) successfully defend a thesis on a topic related to child or adolescent psychology, and (d) participate in concentration activities such as colloquia.

Students should be able to complete the program in 2 years.

Students planning to complete the Child and Adolescent Psychology concentration will need to meet with the Concentration Coordinator once a year to make certain that their program of study meets all concentration requirements.

Empirical Research Thesis

Students in the Child and Adolescent Psychology concentration will be required to complete a research thesis in this area that is supervised by a relevant faculty member. They include but are not restricted to faculty listed below.
