PLTW Core Training 2015

Core Training was created to train new teachers on the content of PLTW courses. The training is an intense one- to two-week sessions where teachers absorb the curriculum appropriate to the course they will teach during the school year. The training includes hands on, project-based learning which is a cornerstone of PLTW curriculum in the classroom.

  • Readiness Training must be completed prior so that certificate can be uploaded
  • Enroll with UCCS still open
  • Letter of Authorization for Payment due prior to the start of the course
  • Continuing Education Units cannot be used toward an academic degree program

Step 4: Fill out Letter of Authorization-Third Party Sponsorship and e-mail to tuitasst@uccs.edu.

The Letter of Authorization is a document in which a sponsor commits to pay designated educational expenses for you. The letter from the sponsor specifies what they will pay, the period of coverage, and billing information.

Computer Specifications & Supply List

All Participants:
  1. Laptop which meets or exceeds PLTW computer requirements/specifications
  2. External mouse
  3. Ethernet cable (10-15 foot)
  4. Jump drive
  5. Digital camera and/or webcam and any necessary equipment needed to download pictures to laptop; ability to take video is optional but highly recommended
  6. Pens, pencils (mechanical preferred) with erasers, and highlighters
  7. Scientific calculator (basic 2 line display)
  8. Closed-toed shoes (for lab work and tours)
  9. Headphones to plug into computer
  10. A positive attitude and a good sense of humor
Additional Supplies
PBS, HBS, MI, BI:
Laboratory coat and safety goggles (UCCS will provide)

CEA:
Participants need to be prepared to conduct outdoor surveying labs. Please bring outdoor footwear, rain gear, and a jacket. Participants also need to be prepared to present their final project before a jury. Please bring business casual clothes for the presentation.

Introduction to Engineering Design (IED) Students must also do a complete and thorough job on all portfolio activities. Students must complete a 3-page (double spaced) paper case study of a real-world design problem or design success story, focusing on the role the design process played in the success or failure of the project. That paper is to be completed within two weeks after the STI.
