Support for Currently Enrolled Undergraduate Students

Undergraduate Physics Major Scholarships The Physics Department offers several scholarships each year for undergraduate students who are currently registered as physics majors. Selection and amount awarded is based on student grades, a personal statement, and information from references. Amounts per scholarship typically range around $1,000. Application deadline: mid-April of each year for the following academic year. Applications are typically available in the Physics Department office by early March.

Undergraduate Research Assistantships The Physics Department typically has 3-5 research positions available for undergraduate students each summer. These full time, 10 week, positions will typically pay $2,500 - $3,000. Part time positions during the academic year may also be available. Consult with individual faculty about these positions. Application deadline: early April of each year. Applications are typically available in the Physics Department office by early March.

Other Undergraduate Support The Physics Department often needs graders for lower division physics courses. Payment varies depending on size of the class. Check with the Physics Department program assistant near the beginning of each semester.

Additional Sources for Support

Several positions as a lab instructor may be available for senior undergraduate or graduate students. These pay approximately $1,000 per 1 credit lab. Students interested in teaching labs should contact the physics department by email at kwoods@uccs.edu.

There are also possibilities for undergraduate or graduate students to be employed by grant supported research. There are no formal application procedures for this. Students interested in these research assistant positions should contact the physics faculty.
