Sonus Naturae is the opening concert of the 2012-2013 Peak FreQuency season. Presented in the sublime outdoor setting of the Heller Center for Arts & Humanities on the campus of the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs (UCCS), this concert will focus on music and sound works that incorporate the environment, from the high volcanoes of central Mexico to the icy waters of Alaska’s Prince William Sound. The concert highlights the UCCS Music Program faculty’s engagement with acoustic ecology and sound art practices, and features new compositions created during the 2012 EcoSono Institute Alaska Summer Residency, among others. Performers are UCCS Music faculty Jane Rigler, Curtis Smith and Colin McAllister, as well as several special surprise guests! Please join us at 6:00pm for drinks and appetizers prior to the concert as well as an opportunity to hear recordings of the humpback whales that were recording this past June off Resurrection Bay in Alaska.
