Printing In Labs (Tips to help conserve paper and toner)

CU Colorado Springs provides printers in all of IT labs for student, staff and faculty use.
The guidelines below may help conserve printing resources, and help you keep your printing costs to a minimum.

  1. Use "Print preview" in your software application menu before sending your print job to see if your work is properly aligned on the page.

  2. When printing Microsoft Powerpoint presentations, use the "Print Handouts" option from the printing menu. This allows you to print up to (9) slides per page rather than (1) per page.

  3. To conserve paper, print documents on both sides of the paper whenever possible. The command to do this can be found in the printing menu. COH 231, COH Computerized classrooms and the EPC computing commons default to double-sided.

  4. Large print files (100 MB+) will not be accepted due to long print times. Keep graphics to a minimum and make sure to select black and white printing. In Powerpoint, you may also change the slide design back to the default blank (white) background. These changes will insure that your job prints in a timely manner and is readable and usable.

  5. If you send a job to a printer and the job does not come out, do not keep sending the same print job over and over. This not only wastes paper, but can also stop the printers queue. Please ask the advisor on duty to help you.

  6. Having printing problems? Ask an advisor to help you with the printer. Do not open the printers and attempt to troubleshoot problems yourself.

  7. If the printers are out of paper, do not attempt to load the paper yourself. Please ask the advisor on duty to assist you.

  8. Please use grayscale whenever possible to conserve toner on printouts of graphics.

  9. When printing Adobe Acrobat .pdf files, click on the small print button in the browser window that is attached to the Acrobat software application rather than the one on Internet Explorer's toolbar. If you are not sure, please ask an advisor for assistance. Clicking the wrong button prints blank sheets and wastes paper.

  10. When printing html documents from webpages that contain frames, right click on the frame that you want to print and select print from the menu.

  11. Please pickup all of your printouts on the printers
