Students and their families are communicating more than ever before. While you may not see your student as often as you use to, you and your student will likely keep in touch on a regular basis. In fact, well over 90% of our students contact their families on a weekly and some even a daily basis. With cell phones, texting, social media (Facebook), and email, staying in touch with family and friends is easier than ever before.

However, it will be important for you and your student to discuss the frequency of communication that works best for the two of you. For example, while you may feel the need to call your student every day, it might be better to pick a certain day/time of the week that you and your student will talk on a regular basis and then let your student reach out to you when they want to. This will still allow you to have opportunity to catch up with your student, but will allow your student a little bit of independence.

UCCS and the Office of Parent and Family Programs collaborate with parents and families to support students with the transition to the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. We know that parent and family involvement is important to student success, and welcome the opportunity to partner with you to support your student both academically and socially. For the parents and families of our new students, we send a monthly newsletter to keep you informed of some of the transitional issues your student may experience along with some important reminders and updates. If you aren’t receiving our monthly newsletter, but would like to be included, please email family@uccs.edu with your name, your student’s name, and the email address you would like us to send the newsletter to.

Technology is one of the main avenues we use to communicate with one another. At UCCS, every student is given a UCCS email address which is used as the primary means of communication. This means that if a professor or other university entity needs to relay information to your student, they will send the information to your student's email account.

While on campus, your student has access to over 500 computers. They may use these computers to check their email, surf the internet, or complete their assignments. The computers have most of the software students need for their classes. Computers are located in the Kraemer Family Library and the Columbine Hall computer labs. Students may print using their Paw Prints account which is the per-page printing system for UCCS.
