| Throughout their academic career, students should try to combine their studies with a variety of out-of-classroom experiences. UCCS has a lot to offer students whether or not your student chooses to live on campus. From concerts, to sporting events, to significant speakers, and clubs/organizations, there is always something to get involved in and something to do. |

While it’s not your student’s only option, living on-campus does offer a lot of conveniences that you and your student may want to consider when making the decision to live on- or off- campus. While being in an environment that promotes safety and security, your student will benefit from the chance to learn about other cultures and lifestyles, form lifelong friends, and make lasting memories. Living on-campus, in the villages, allows easy access to campus resources, entertainment, activities, programs, and events. Students living in residence halls typically do better academically and are more likely to remain enrolled at UCCS than students who commute. The theory is that the more involved and connected a student feels to campus, the happier they are and the more likely they are to stay in college. For more information regarding living on-campus, please visit www.uccs.edu/residence, call 719-255-4042, or email housing@uccs.edu.
Many of our students choose to live off-campus and while living off-campus may not offer a lot of the same conveniences of living on-campus, it doesn’t mean that students don’t have a lot of the same opportunities. In fact, off-campus students are invited to the same concerns, sporting events, significant speakers, and clubs/organizations as students living on-campus. Again, the more involved and connected a student feels to campus, the happier they are and the more likely they are to stay in college. So, if your student plans on living off-campus encourage them to take advantage of all of the resources, programs, events, and activities – it’s important that they plan on spending time on campus even if they aren’t living on-campus. |
