Important Event Details and Pre-Registration Guidelines

The competion is held the fourth Friday of every April, with the award ceremony held the following Friday.

The events are held at, and co-sponsored by The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS)

The Colorado Mathematical Olympiad is open to all students from elementary through high school.

1.     Competition times:

On-site Registration and Check-in begins at 8:00 a.m.

Competition begins PROMPTLY at 9:00 a.m.  If you or your group are late, you will be allowed to participate, but no exented deadlines will be given.

Competition ends at 1:00 p.m. 

2.     Awards Ceremony agenda:

Awards will be the following Friday AFTER the competition date each year.

1:45 pm -2:30 pm:  Solutions Review

2:40 pm -3:25 pm:  Lecture/Presentation

3:30 pm -4:00 pm:  Documentary (The Colorado Mathematical Olympiad)

4:00 pm -5:00 pm:  Award Presentations

5:00 pm -5:30 pm: Reception  hosted by Alexander Soifer

3.     Pre-registration Information:

Pre-registration will be available beginning in January each year. You may pre-register online here: Pre-Registration Form.  Should you miss the online pre-registration deadline you will be able to register the morning of the competition at the event, beginning at 8:00 am.

3.     Competition Information:

  • The CMO is an individual competition.
  • The CMO is open to all middle and high school students
  • The CMO is an essay-type competition consisting of (5) problems - may review sample problems here: CMO Sample
  • Students may bring: calculators, compasses and/or straight edge rulers
  • UCCS will provide: graphing paper, pencils and scratch paper
  • Each student will be given a folder containing: a campus map, scratch paper, pencil, and an Award Ceremony program.

Schools are to provide their students with a designated meeting location and time for participants leaving before 1 p.m. and for students being picked up by parents.

Please note: Schools may provide transportation and resources, however they may not enter as a competitor or team. The CMO is an individual competition and all students must be registered individually.

On-site Registration and Check-in (8:00 a.m.) and Check-Out (after student completes test) is required.

Registration and Check-in will take place in Berger Hall- this may be used as a central meeting location for questions, emergencies, etc. Competition and check out will be held in the Gallogly Event Center. Students will check-out with their row's proctor.
