M.O.S.A.I.C. Mentorship Program

Anthony Cordova + Student

The M.O.S.A.I.C. Mentorship Program pairs freshmen students with faculty and staff members who provide support and resources for new students on campus.

Why do I need a mentor?

Many freshmen feel lost their first time on campus. All the resources on campus are useless if you don't know where to look for them! A mentor can help with adjusting to college life and point you toward resources critical for your success in college.

Do I get to choose my own mentor?

We pair students with mentors who have already volunteered for the program. Part of your orientation for the program will allow you to choose what criteria we pair you on; for example, you may wish us to pair you on ethnicity or sexual orientation, as opposed to your major. We do make every effort to accommodate both the mentor and the mentee in the pairing process. If you would like to be paired with a specific faculty or staff member, contact us and we will work with you to form that pairing.

What if I don't like my mentor?

We definitely understand that not everyone will get along. After all, we are pairing complete strangers with each other! MOSAIC keeps in contact with the mentor and the mentee throughout the year. If issues come up, we will try to mediate issues first; however, if there is simply a clash between mentor and mentee, we will make every effort to re-pair.

I can't get into contact with my mentor. Help!

We definitely don't want there to be a communication breakdown between the student and the mentor. If you are having trouble contacting your mentor, MOSAIC should be aware of that - please contact us immediately.

Why do I have to sign a contract?

We encourage mentorship pairs to be "on the same page" on what both parties want from the pairing. By signing the Mentorship Agreement, you are telling M.O.S.A.I.C. that you understand your expectations and responsibilities for participating in this program. Additionally, we want this program to be successful - so we try emphasize the importance of good communication with your mentor.
