Employment Opportunities

The MLC employs peer tutors, Supplemental Instruction (SI) leaders, and small group tutors. We typically hire in all three categories before the start of the Fall and Spring semesters, with interviews scheduled beginning in July for Fall, and December for Spring.

Peer Tutors: Job Description
Peer tutors are the tutors in the MLC who help students on a walk-in basis. To be a peer tutor, you must meet University employment eligibility requirements, and have already passed Calculus III. The minimum grade requirements are that you have earned a B or better in all three courses in the Calculus sequence, with an overall math GPA of 3.0 or better. To apply, fill out the application and return it to Dr. Dorrington in the MLC, Engineering 136.

SI Leaders: Job Description
SI leaders are the core of the Supplemental Instruction model. An SI leader is a student who has done well in the course for which she or he is the SI leader, and is trained in group study techniques. The leader attends class, keeps up with the work of the class along with the other students, and leads two 1 1/2 hour sessions per week. SI leaders learn valuable group moderating skills, as well as building their organizational skills and course content knowledge. To be an SI leader, you must meet University employment eligibility requirements, have already taken the class and earned a B or better, be creative and proactive. To apply, fill out the application and return it to Dr. Dorrington in the MLC, Engineering 136.

Small Group Tutors: Job Description
Small group tutors work with groups of from one to four students from the same class for an hour a week. In the group sessions, the tutor answers questions on the course content, and guides the group members to help each other by answering each others' questions. By incorporating study techniques into the discussion of the course material, the tutors also help the students become better all-around students. Small group tutors meet the requirements for employment in the MLC (see above, Peer Tutors). To apply, fill out the application for Peer Tutors, and indicate that you are interested in small group tutoring.
