Ramanujan and His Mathematical World

Seung Son
Department of Mathematics, University of Colorado, Colorado Springs

Abstract: Ramanujan, a college drop-out, did his own research to discover and to develop mathematical theories. Later the mathematical community began to understand his extraordinary talent and ability, but could not quite understand or follow his directions. After his sudden death, his discoveries became more mysterious and even now many mathematicians are trying to reveal
the secrets of some of his discoveries. In this talk, we will learn about the history of his journey, recognition by the mathematical society in England, golden time, sudden death, attempts made by people of his time, George Andrews' heroic involvement, Bruce Berndt's unbelievable hard work to
edit Ramanujan's notebooks, Ken Ono's involvement and a few cases of real examples.
