Dr. Michael Calvisi received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley where he also received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Applied Science and Technology. After receiving his B.S. degree and prior to graduate school, Dr. Calvisi worked in Silicon Valley as a mechanical engineer designing process and automation equipment for the semiconductor industry. He holds a Professional Engineer license in California and also a patent. After completion of his Ph.D. in 2006, he held post-doctoral researcher positions at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom and at Northwestern University prior to joining the faculty at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
Dr. Calvisi's research interests are in theoretical and computational fluid dynamics with an emphasis on multi-phase flows and bio-fluid mechanics. He has particular interests in cavitation and ultrasound along with their applications in biology and medicine. His research has primarily focused on the development of Boundary Element Methods for computational modeling of bubble dynamics. More recently, he has investigated fluid-structure interaction in cranial aneurysms. In addition to fluid mechanics, he has interests in nonlinear dynamics and dynamical systems.
