The MAE department offers an introductory machining class both fall and spring semester (MAE 1005). It is open to both engineering and non-engineering students as a 3 credit project based elective. Students learn basic skills in sheet metal, mill and lathe operation, and very basic TIG welding.
MAE 1503 students presently spend two class periods each (by reservation), making a wax part on the mill and lathe as part of their class grade.
The shop is open to all students wishing to work on projects whether they have prior experience or not. If you have no experience, shop personnel will train you as time permits. Projects will be prioritized based on class requirements, department needs, and personal projects.
