About Carla Myers

As the Faculty Director of Access Services and Scholarly Communications I play an important role in supporting the academic mission of UCCS. My responsibilities involve many facets of librarianship:

Access Services

I oversee the Circulation Department and am responsible for enhancing our library’s borrowing and lending services. I’m always looking for new ways to help our patrons gain access to information! Some of the services I’ve helped implement include:

Reference Assistance

You’ll frequently find me at the Reference Desk, helping our patrons find information and teaching them how to use library resources.

Liaison Work

I’m the Library’s liaison to the College of Business and the Economics Department, which means that I...

  • Select and purchase resources (books, journals, films) that support research in these discipline
  • Provide classroom instruction to these students; helping them learn how to search our catalog and databases to find quality information
  • Provide one-on-one research consultations for those patrons who need in-depth information on a business or economics topic

If you are a student or faculty member in either of these departments please feel free to contact me anytime with questions or purchase suggestions!

Copyright Education

As part of my Scholarly Communications responsibilities I provide copyright information and educational resources to the UCCS campus community. If you are interested in learning more about campus copyright issues please take a look at my publications, presentations and special projects.

Special Projects

UCCS Copyright Education Initiative

In 2012 I launched the UCCS Copyright Education Initiative, a program that helps students and instructors learn how they can legally utilize copyrighted works for teaching, research, and scholarship. One of the primary components of the Initiative is workshops, lectures, and brown bag seminars through which I address a variety of campus copyright issues. I also offer one-on-one consultations for faculty and students where I provide assistance with specific copyright questions or issues.

UCCS Copyright Conference

I served as the Chair of the UCCS Copyright Conference, which was last held in June 2014. This conference offered public, academic, and school librarians the opportunity to learn about U.S. Copyright Law and how it impacts the services we offer our patrons.  Topics covered included

  • The fundamentals of U.S. Copyright Law which every librarian needs to be familiar with
  • The copyright exceptions of fair use and section 108
  • Recent court cases which impact the services we offer our patrons.

The conference presentation archive can be found on the conference webpage.

Information regarding the 2015 UCCS Copyright Conference will be available soon!
