The University of Colorado presence in Colorado Springs began with classes through the Extension Service. As the attendance of classes increased, a Center was established and a Resident Administrator was appointed. This Resident Administrator of the Center was the forerunner of the Chancellor of the UCCS campus. The title has changed and responsibilities expanded as property was acquired and the legal status of the campus led to reorganization of the University administration. Through time, each Resident Administrator, then Vice President, and later Chancellor oversaw the operations of the academic environment, planned for future development, and has worked to meet southern Colorado's educational needs.
