    The LGBT Resource Center hosts a TRANS-FOCUSED Safe Zone training for all who wish to educate themselves about the 'T' in 'LGBT'. The transgender community has specific needs which go unaddressed when discussing sexual orientation; as such this transgender focused Safe Zone training is an opportunity to learn about those who make up the Transgender community.  By gaining understanding we can better serve transgender students, faculty and staff at UCCS!

Additionally the LGBT Resource Center and SPECTRUM would like to celebrate the lives and experiences of transgender individuals by hosting a special guest! Please join us for the Journey of Gina Fuquea: The reality of being transgender. Gina Fuquea was born James M. Fuquea in a small town in Georgia. She served in the United States Air Force for 20 years, finishing her career as a Global Survival Instructor.  After 40 years in the closet, Gina came out as transgender. She shares her experiences:

The final event is a community event and the traditional event held for International Transgender Day of Remembrance. The Peak Area Gender Expressions group sponsors the 15th Annual International Transgender Day of Remembrance Vigil. This event is an opportunity to memorialize those who have been  killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice.  This event is free, open to the public and will include a candlelight vigil and refreshments.  The observance is
