Have a Happy Summer!

The LGBT Resource Center does not have any events planned this summer, but we'll be back in the fall! Below are the events we put on yearly. Make sure you keep an eye out for new events each semester. Even though we don't put any events on during summer, the office is still open, so drop by and say hi sometime.

Safe Zone is a training designed to educate students, faculty, staff and community members about the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Safe Zone is an allies training that will explore terminology, the coming out process, gender identity and how to be a supportive ally of the LGBT community. This program creates a visible safe community on campus through the display of Safe Zone Stickers; you can earn yours by participating in the next Safe Zone training! Safe Zone training is approximately 2 hours long.

LGBT 101 is an introductory presentation providing basic information about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. The LGBT 101 presentation focuses on the experience of LGBT people on campus and how to interrupt homophobia and transphobia in a safe way. LGBT 101 is approximately 1 hour long.

Trans 101 is a presentation that focuses on the experience of those who identify as Transgender. The Trans 101 presentation focuses on gender identity as a concept separate from sexual orientation. This presentation explains how to use appropriate language when discussing gender and give participants the tools necessary to be inclusive of transgender individuals in their classrooms, clubs, residence halls and everyday lives. Trans 101 is approximately 1.5 hours long.

A Multicultural Affair
These once-a-semester gatherings are a celebration of diversity in all forms. Our first Multicultural Affair was held in September of 2013 and was a smash hit. The recorded attendance was almost double what was expected. Our next Affair will be held in February of 2014.
