Nancy Lewis was the visionary for the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center, is a representative for LH Holdings, Inc., past president of the Garden of the Gods Foundation and past director of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services. Nancy has brought much recognition to UCCS and continues to be involved with the University in multiple ways. Nancy currently serves as a member of the Chancellor's Ambassadors, played a pivotal role in creating the UCCS Teach program and assisted in UCCS receiving a $2 million gift for the Veteran Health and Trauma Initiative. She has worked closely with the University on the development of North Nevada and other academic initiatives.
Nancy's awards and involvement in the region are second to none. In 2012, The Alumni and Friends Award was presented to Nancy for demonstrating significant contributions to further the growth and development of UCCS. She was the 2011 winner of the prestigious Athena Award and has been noted for her talent for identifying women with leadership potential and influencing, guiding and counseling them to accept increased responsibility and visibility in the community. Nancy was the recipient of the Leadership Pikes Peak Community Trustee of the Year, and received the Distinguished Service Award from UCCS. She is past president of both the Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce, and Experience Colorado Springs Convention and Visitor's Bureau. Nancy has served as chair of the Penrose/St. Francis Health Foundation, and vice chair of the Penrose/St. Francis Board of Trustees. In 1997, the City of Colorado Springs dedicated "Nancy Lewis Park" in her honor. Most recently, Nancy became an author when she published her first book with Deborah Odell, The Parks of Colorado Springs. One community leader described Nancy as "the steward of General Palmer's legacy to preserve open spaces and nurture a vibrant economy."
